I ended up here for the first time because of some friends recommendations. We came in for an early dinner before a movie and it was amazing. They had 2 buffets full of different things but I choose to only fill up on the good stuff. Round after round I chowed down and it seemed to get better and better as I went along. There are cheap deals to eat their at odd times and I suggest doing just that!

Sat down and was asked how we wanted are beef cook. Medium rare. Minutes later we were offered chicken then ham, then salmon. No beef. 20 minutes after sitting and two plates of salad and over salted cheesey topped bread rolls, we were nearly offered some very well done beef, but before the offer was made the server remembered we wanted medium rare. The server disappeared so very quickly realizing the error we couldn't ask, where's the beef? Another server, but now 30 plus minutes into the meal finally came by with medium rare beef. You guessed it, I got first slice. A very well done first slice. End of story. I'm done with this place. Never again. You guys are terrible.

Ok, so the food on the buffet is good when it is fresh. The meat is delicious and the servers all seemed to be nice. When it comes to the front desk, they seemed to be in hang out mode and not very professional (eating behind the desk with like 3 other coworkers as they act like no one else is there.) My boyfriend and I had to wipe down our dishes. We could not find one clean dish in the place. My $8 glass of wine was in a dirty wine glass (not just a little hazy, there were chunks.) I was hoping the alcohol in the wine would kill whatever may be on the glass. Honestly, it was very disappointing for the amount of money we spent there. I would not go again or recommend it to anyone. If they got a new dish washer (someone to get debris off of dishes before putting them in a machine) and hired some more professional staff, it would change tremendously.

It was nice enough inside. We showed up and apparently they require reservations; we told them we didn’t have any and they still accommodated us; they had plenty of room which was why it was odd they required a reservation. They put us in a far corner away in another room. It was just kind of odd. The food was good. It was expensive for the regular meat course and salad bar.

Let me start by saying that I’ve been to many Tucanos restaurants. This one is by no means bad, it just does not amaze in any way either. Tucanos is a fun place to take your family and the atmosphere is enjoyable, the steak on this visit was just not the best. The staff was really nice and we went for lunch which meant that we were almost the only people there at the time. If you are looking for an inexpensive Brazilian steakhouse in Newport News, go check it out.
