We stopped by Chartreuse Bistro last night and had a seat at the bar. This is a lovely, minimalist space. The food was AMAZING! We will definitely be back. I would highly recommend!

This is our second visit to Chartreuse Bistro; the last visit was a year ago. We had the same waitress this time, and she asked "is this your first time here?" to which we replied "no". She said "I thought so, you were here about a year ago. You sat right there" as she motioned to the table we were seated at a year prior. It's nice to be remembered and also nice to see the same staff year after year. The dinner service here is impressive. The staff moves quietly and smoothly through the place, and are always nearby if you need something. The music is not overpowering and sets just the right mood. There are only about seven tables here, plus the bar/counter area, where you can watch the chef at work in the kitchen. The menu changes daily, based on what is available and in season. There were five appetizer choices, and four or five entrees available. This night, there were two desserts on the menu, plus an off-menu dessert special. The wine recommendation was spot on, and our appetizers and entrees were both delicious. For dessert, we had the house-made brie ice cream, which was unbelievably good. The coffee comes in a French press, with more than enough for two to share. We highly recommend this to anyone looking for a nice, quiet, romantic evening and dinner. We will always make time to come back to Chartreuse when we're in Norfolk.

Absolutely amazing fare. I can't recommend them enough. Garlic Martini is my favorite. Along with their Crudo hour and rotating menu. Can't go wrong.

I love food and this was just not good. Honestly two of the five dishes we had l took one bite of and you couldn't have paid me to eat a second bite. The curried fish casserole was decent enough but it didn't make up for the rest of the meal falling flat. Especially considering the price of the dinner. The menu attempted to be creative but lacked execution. The service was attentive but they seemed to hover a bit for my personal tastes. The 4+ average is what confuses me the most. Maybe we hit a bad night with their daily menu change but considering I would activity avoid two dishes, I wasn't impressed by two of the dishes, and the last was only decent I really think this restaurant is way overrated. Sorry to the chef I wanted to like it and I normally don't write reviews but people need to be warned.
