I hesitate to say how much I love the quiet of this place, because then you’ll come and mess it up. The view is classic Tidewater: water, industry, navy. The huge windows offer a front row seat to river traffic and evening sunsets. Yes, the food is slow to arrive, but we go to savor, so I’ve never found this to be a negative. The Ode to Doumars sashimi in sesame waffle cone is an outstanding and fresh blend of flavors I . We get it every time. The vegetables that accompany entrees are varied, a beautiful array of color. Much of the wine list is populated by Virginia wines—not always stellar, but High 5 for going local.

Jan. 20, 2018 dinner: We had reservations at 5:30 and were asked to come right on time because it was going to be a busy night. We arrived at 5:25 and were told they weren’t ready for us yet, mind you the restaurant had a couple of other people waiting but no tables with people seated. We were finally seated around 5:45. Service was great. I ordered an old-fashioned; unfortunately, the bartender did not know how to make one. Food: the crab soup and the chicken and waffles were great. My pork tenderloin was good, but nothing special that would separate this entree from another mediocre restaurant. My husband’s hamburger was very disappointing. The bun was just a regular bun that you’d expect at a family barbecue. Nothing unique to favor or presentation for the burger to warrant it as an option for restaurant week. My dessert choice was the pineapple cobbler, which was much too sweet, and you can tell the pineapples were canned pineapples. My husband’s creme brûlée was also too sweet/sugary, and the presentation was lack-luster. There was a big tablespoon of confectioner’s sugar on top. Food was disappointing and not worthy of the price, even for restaurant week. The pros: service and atmosphere.

I'll preface this with the fact that I have stupidly high standards since living in Charleston. Regardless, this place is good...but it pretends to be something it is not. It is aspiring to be more, but isn't willing to really go the distance to get there. The food was really good, but not great. I thoroughly enjoyed my duck entree and my wife her crab cakes. Wine selection was good enough, but my $35 bottle came with a screw cap. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was relaxing, intimate, and calm. Yet, for a place touting themselves as a bit upscale...it just doesn't make the mark. It is priced as an upscale restaurant as well when it should probably be a notch lower. We dressed appropriately for an upscale restaurant, but we could've came in a bit more casual attire. Regardless, we enjoyed our meals and the view of the waterfront from our table. I just feel this place could be much more, but maybe that is to much to ask of it. This may be upscale for the area, but it falls short in that aspect with me.

This was awful. We arrived for a reservation to a completely empty restaurant. Not necessarily a big deal but it took almost 30 minutes to get our appetizers and over an hour to get our entrees. I ordered their James Beard burger without mayo and it arrived covered in mayo, both sides. There was no way that a new bun would fix this so I just said that I wanted the burger taken off my bill. They initially argued that they couldn't do that but after pressing the issue they did take it off the bill. The meal was very disappointing but it took almost 30 minutes to get the check. We were so disappointed with the results we asked to speak to a manager. Turns out the manager/chef/owner left over an hour before they were closed so they could not address our concerns. By the way nobody ever came in the restaurant the entire time we were there. I could overlook a mistake on an order especially if they tried to make it right but the poor service when we were the only ones there for over 2 hours. It also really made me mad that the manager left before the restaurant was closed by over an hour!! What kind of way is this to run a business?! To add insult to injury we had to pay 22% gratuity to the bill because we were a party of 6.... don't waste your time here. The mac and cheese was good but not worth the money and it's clear the management doesn't care. I'll never go back.

Visited on a week night, early dinner. We made reservations on line, seated right away, waiter was great! Very attentive and took the time to explain everything to us (first time visit). We really like the salad bar. Great selection of cheeses, fruit, and fantastic prepared veggie. I liked the soup as well.
