Incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff. We all ordered different German dishes and all were great served in generous, no-room-for-dessert portions. With advice from our waitress we each tweaked our orders a bit...excellent. Family style sides were varied and refilled often. We'll be back!

Very delicious food, but quite expensive. Not a casual dining experience. For the prices however, the restaurant itself appeared to be an old turn-of-the-century home that was remodeled to house tables and a bar. The rickety staircase, gives way to a tight seating area that appears to be an old attic. Although it was a semi-cramped seating arrangement, and surprisingly pricey (especially for the portions), the food was extremely delicious. I really enjoyed the experience, and I would absolutely eat here again.

The Bavarian Chef is one of the hidden gems in Madison. The plating was beautiful. The servers were very kind and were able to describe each entre thoroughly. I'm not a particular fan of German food, but I enjoyed myself. The restaurant itself is rustic to say the least.

I've been here several times and it's still great. The steak I had has changed. Not to much flavor. But still a good place

Bavarian Chef is hands down the best restaurant in the entire area. Top notch, highest quality food. This is a 5 star rated restaurant, with 5 star rated staff. Reservations are a must. The bread service is excellent. The Bavarian pretzel is a must do. My favorite dish is the crab stuffed collosal shrimp scampi over mashed potatoes. Their meals are easily enough for two or three to share. Wonderful food, cozy, romantic atmosphere, and a gorgeous drive to get here. An added bonus suggestion: make a Saturday dinner reservation, and drive out early to visit some local antique shops. It makes a wonderful day trip. Or visit one of the many bed & breakfasts in the area, and have a weekend away with a delicious dinner.
