My wife and I have eaten all over the country. We make frequent trips to eat in NYC, and River and Rail can rival any of the restaurants we have eaten at up there! There is something to be said for consistency, and that is what we experience here. Consistently amazing food. Consistently great service. Every single time. I have yet to try something here that I didn't like. Their usual menu is always full of amazingly delicious options, and their theme dinners are the best. We are lucky to have a restaurant of this caliber here in Roanoke. It is by far our most favorite place to keep going back to!

Food menu was interesting and well prepared but it took nearly 45-50 minutes to actually get the food during normal Sunday service. Bartender was friendly and drinks were good. Just don't go if you're in a hurry.

River and Rail is our absolute favorite place in Roanoke. Their seasonal menu always has a great selection of local products, and the service is outstanding. If you like cocktails, their bartenders are true artists. Can't recommend this place enough.

Evidently you have to either look a certain way or dress a certain way. First of all, we had to ask the hostess to take our name and number, which she didn't really want to do. We waited outside for her to call us. She then sat another couple, who came in after us, at the table we thought would be ours. My wife walked in to speak to the hostess who gave an I could care less "sorry". Needless to say we left and will NEVER return. We were here celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary, and just wanted to have a good meal. However, what we got was a kick in the teeth. I am sure nobody at The River and Rail will read this, but I hope they do. If you are ever in Roanoke and want to eat here, be sure to pack your suit.

What an unexpected pleasure! We ate lunch on our way through Roanoke. I'm southern and have grown up eating fried chicken. I have to say that this was the best I've ever had! (Don't tell my Mama!) We so enjoyed the food that we stop in for brunch on the way back. I love the fusion of French and Appalchian food.
