A cozy, clean, AUTHENTIC Japanese sushi restaurant actually run by Japanese people. I believe it was started by a Japanese family, not sure about the ownership now, but either way they're doing a great job running the business efficiently. Above average quality, you can really taste the ocean with their fish Slightly below average size & quantity, it's noticeable Slightly above average price, I gotta spent above $20+ to be full Overall it's a worthwhile experience. After eating their food you feel more clean than bloated, which is a downfall of many other sushi joints around town. The food here is not greasy or fatty at all. The rice has an excellent sticky, soft, grainy texture, it definitely stands out as above average Service wise, the staff are very polite, prompt and discreet. They have lineups here however they noticeably never get overwhelmed, they are extremely efficient at what they do. The menu is as easy to understand as the food is to digest. Their Teriyaki is another dish that is both unique and very memorable. In terms of scenery, it's in between small to medium space wise. They just recently completed a renovation. The restaurant is clean and classy, although nothing overly extravagant, it's definitely no hole in the wall or over crowded with clutter. Pretty relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. Lots of parking in the plaza & u have the option to eat in or take out. I would recommend this to anyone in the neighborhood or anyone who's in the mood for a quality, authentic Japanese sushi experience in a laid back, clean and comfortable setting. Some say that this is the best sushi restaurant in Richmond and to be honest, I haven't eaten at enough Sushi restaurants in town to be sure (since there are so many of them to choose from). However based on the authenticity, quality and level of service that I have consistently experienced at this location over the years, I wouldn't be surprised if it truly were the best or at the very least one of the best in town.

Recently got back into loving sushi, but I really had no idea where to go. Based on a recommendation from my daughter we went to Takeya. Now, I've never been to Japan - but this is how I've always imagined it would be there - I'm talking about the employees and the service. We were seated immediately and given menus. It only took a minute for us to figure out what we wanted and right away the waitress was there, she took the order and was gone. She brought our food out in less than 5 minutes. It was really, really good. Everything just tasted fresh. The only thing that (after repeated visits) I'd say is awkward is that one order of sushi is not enough, and 2 orders is too much for me. I wish the single serving was just a bit bigger. But - still - it all tastes excellent. So, we finished our food and immediately the dirty plates were removed, and we were given a bill to take to the counter. We finished our drinks, went up and paid. That's when I looked at my watch - and was amazed. 18 minutes. It had only been 18 minutes since we walked into the restaurant! It was so fast, so efficient and so good. After that first time we usually each order two servings now - and with a drink and tip it comes to $30 even. We've been many times now. Sometimes we take more time and relax a bit, but otherwise it's great that the service is so efficient. Oh, my daughter says the woman's washroom has a heated toilet seat :)

Great, fast service! My boyfriend and his family love sushi and I love the beef and chicken teriyaki dishes here.

The restaurant was busy. Service was okay. Raw ingredients were rather fresh. Food was not amazing to be honest. One of the chef specials with fruits and avocado in oshisushi , dressed in sweet sauce, made me really sick. Nice try, but I have actually had better oshisushi from a pub. Price was okay, but my wallet and stomach does not want me to revisit.

Nice neighbourhood place, clean and simple. Friendly and quick service! The beef ramen was very good, and I couldn't get enough of the broth! Rolls pretty good too. Will definitely go back again to try other dishes on their menu--- a wide variety of choices available.
