Food is excellent. Service however not at all. The waitress who brought out our food tried to charge us a 15% gratuity on the check for just 2 people. Her reasoning for that was that they charge regulars who don't tip "well" a mandatory 15% gratuity. I have not been to Yamato in about 5-6 months. And she had told me I am a "regular who doesn't tip well..." I was not told of this new "policy" I didn't see it posted anywhere in the restaurant either. It was rather ridiculous that she thought she could deem who tips well and who doesn't. She even said that she could bring up previous records showing how much I tipped, when I asked for her to bring those out she changed the subject. She then proceeded to try to lecture me about how she makes her living off of tip... I will not be returning until they change this "policy".

Authentic and tasty Japanese food and friendly service. A bit pricey. Simple decor and quiet relaxed atmosphere (opposite of Sushi Garden or Azian).

As a vegan, I had very few options, HOWEVER: The vegan options were delicious. Avo rolls, soybean rice pockets, and the curry udon were vegan and I had the friendliest, most accommodating server and staff ever. Although I can't order much, I'd definitely go again. I'm sure the entire menu is great

As my point of view, compared two nicest Japanese restaurant, Yamato and Ginza in Tucson. I prefer Yamato. I went Japan a lot of times, Yamato taste very familiar with the original Japanese 料理,and there are a lot of cuisine you cannot find in American-Japanese restaurant, which is an important reason I love Yamato. But if you go to Little Tokyo in LA, the udon taste much better. For Raman is as good as ikkyuu. All in all, for the average tasty, Yamato is the best in Tucson (my own opinion).
