The food was fantastic. I recommend the chicken dish with lemon and olive, and the salad that comes with matbukha and bread. The new mother-daughter co owners of this surprising restaurant were warm and lighthearted as they helped us order and guided us in hand-washing before and after eating. It felt like completing a serious ritual while laughing with a neighbor you really like. The mother of the mother-daughter team shared that the restaurant has been part of the neighborhood for decades and since 5 months ago (~Dec, 2017?) when they took ownership, they’ve kept in contact with the previous owner. The belly dancing was impressive too, and didn’t make me uncomfortable. At one point, the dancer taught a few people some moves, with the same sort of positivity you’d expect from a yoga teacher. Also, happy hour looked amazing.

There are definitely really good appetizers for five dollars during happy hours 5 - 7 pm Tue - Friday. The sirloin kabobs are my favorite and flavor of the beef is like good quality sirloin steak. Out of all the entrees the tastiest of them all is the braised or stewed rabbit. It has a rich flavor and rabbit is surprisingly tasty although like chicken in some ways. It seems like each form of meat is stewed or braised and the varieties are simply toppings dropping onto the meat.

I love this place. My parent's ate at this very spot on their honeymoon, and now me and my beautiful wife shared that same magical experience. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The staff amazing, and the atmosphere was very romantic and relaxing.

Sixteen of us celebrated my husband’s birthday at Babouch Restaurant this past Saturday and had a wonderful time. The new and former owners were very attentive to our party, making sure everyone was comfortable and enjoying the experience. The food was very tasty and authentic. It was as close to Moroccan comfort food as you can get outside of Morocco. We had a five course meal for $25 family buffet style. That’s amazing. This restaurant continues to be one of our best kept secrets in San Pedro even though we reside in Orange County. It’s definitely worth the drive.

I came hear completely oblivious to what Babouch was about. The gentleman who greeted us was nice. The waitress we got was not very friendly, but the tarot card reader/belly dancer was nice and friendly. The interior of the restaurant is cool, there are Persian looking rugs on the walls lots of pillowed saying, and the cloth on the ceiling gives you the feeling you're inside a large tent. It was pretty clear we were part of a pretty bland crowd, but the tarot card reader/belly dancer did her best to entertain us, so that was a nice touch. I'm usually not too rough on a restaurant's food, but it's kind of hard to let a place slide When the food is expensive and portions are small like they were here. You can order individual plates or you can order from a preset menu and get served family style. We had beef, chicken, and shrimp. The chicken was tender, but not very flavorful, the beef was flavorful, but not tender, and the shrimp was fine. If I had to, I might return here for the show in the front room because they seemed to be having a lot of fun, and the greeter was nice, but I wouldn't return for the food alone.
