The food was delicious!! No wonder this place was so packed and we got really lucky with bar seats for walk in. The portions were BIG and we ordered way too much food for two people. 😅 Their cocktails were tasty, even the non alcoholic ones.

Delicious food. Seriously amazing flavors. The 2 cocktails we got, we ended up sending them back because they just tasted really, really off. Beer was great though, and so was the sparkling sake. Definitely want to try out their lunch menu!

Don't expect a traditional Japanese dinner at the time you step inside this trendy restaurant with outdoor seatings and full bar. It definitely a great experience enjoying the outstanding reinvention of Japanese fare and drinks, especially the tempura, pasta and portobello. Price is reasonable and portions are large.

Summary based on one lunch: --very good food --ok prices for the area --friendly, attentive service --immediate seating on our visit --ok parking on a Friday afternoon in free lot --somewhat loud inside, but ok for conversation --outdoor seating available --some expensive Japanese craft beers available Salad was standard, not very Japanese influenced, IMO. "Japanese style" fried chicken was very good with several condiments and a small bunch of greens. Recommended. I'd eat here again.

A modern Japanese restaurant on Fourth St., Berkeley, CA. I absolutely LOVE the seaweed salad and kaarage (fried chicken). The ramen is delicious!
