A restaurant in one of the greatest places on earth that locally sources seafood. The high end restaurant next door does for only two things. I was slightly disappointed that the 14 dollar crab cakes were deep fried. They were tasty but not the same as a pan seared crab cake. The other food was good. The chowder was seasoned exceptionally well. I would return.

Spengler's failed veterans on Memorial Day by allowing a confirmed booking for a free meal to veterans, as a thank you for your suffering during service, and then denying it once myself and another veteran arrived for our reservation. The server said, "Oh, that veteran thing...my manager said we are only giving a 20% discount". As two veterans, my friend and myself walked out. Another example of huge corporations playing sloppy with internet promotions and booking, then passing it off as a minor mistake. These companies don't deserve military and veterans suffering to defend the US constitution as they conduct this type of sloppiness.

Turned my parents and I away at 130pm (non peak hours) on Mother's day because they were "only taking reservations". Um...the place was virtually empty and I'm certain they could have accommodated our small party for lunch as we had been traveling and sitting in traffic for over an hour with an infant. In addition to the RIDICULOUS decision to be firmly reservation only on mithersm day afternoon for a not so fancy place, the hostess was rude to boot. We went to Brennan's around the corner instead and got some delicious sandwiches and had a great lunch there.

Not what I remember. I had the Sand dabs, they were breaded in a thick tasteless breading, so I removed the breading but the fish itself was dry and tasteless. The risotto was tasty, but the texture was off. The Broccolini was cooked properly and added nice color to the plate. All in all I was dissatisfied with the dinner and sent it back. I had a side of a 4oz lobster which was delicious and cooked to perfection. So I ended up having two Lobsters. My waiter was very nice, handled taking back my dinner nicely, and offered my companion and I a complimentary dessert for our trouble. Just not the Spenger’s I remember from years ago. I won’t return.

It was 25 years since our last visit to this stalwart icon of fish dinners! We are pleased to announce that the food, drink and service are still superior to any chain type restaurant. Thank you, Betty, for your warm welcome and the charming and relaxed service! We are planning our return visit; it does seem as if we are home at last.
