Generally speaking, Castro Valley is not known for it's restaurant scene so three stars isn't half bad. There always seems to be plenty of seating and the food is halfway decent although the cocktails are a bit on the weak side. I don't ever go here by choice considering Hayward and San Leandro are border cities with incredible Mexican food but I don't avoid Don Jose's either.

Food is good and fresh... But they are Different about how they place and or seat people you can want t o sit in one area and tell you to sit an area in which you dont want to sit. Strange to me.

Service and margaritas were good. Other than that, wasn't impressed with the food. Very Americanized Mexican food that didn't look "homemade" or taste like real Mexican.

I went there to hear a seminar, the attendees received a free dinner. I was surprised, the food was great! I had the Chili Colorado and I couldn't stop eating it was very good! The resteraunt was very clean and brightly colored inside . I would definitely recommend this place for one person or a banquet.
