We were in SD for a friends wedding and ended up at Kansas City BBQ hoping to watch a bit of March Madness & chow down on some tasty BBQ. Unfortunately, the overall food quality is just not there. We ordered the ribs & beef brisket. The meat was relatively tough and lacked flavor. The sides were so-so; we had the coleslaw and potato salad. The waitstaff did warn us that they were out of the most popular sides (onion rings, mac & cheese) because of a perfect storm of conventions in SD that weekend. Overall it is a dive bar (which I love), so it would be an excellent place for a few beers. Don't expect fancy or clean. Staff was friendly and accommodating, despite the long wait for food & seating. TL/DR : - Food is meh - Service is friendly but slow - Good place for beers Note: Top Gun filmed a scene at this bar, so it is a bit touristy. Not something we realized until we arrived.

This a gem that is hidden away. I loved the fact that is a mom and pop restaurant. It's like eating with your family. Then there is the food. All home made and the taste was just like home. The pulled pork and bbq beans were great. If your in the area you need to stop in for some good foods.

The service is very slow. I had pulled pork sandwich with onion rings. My husband had pulled pork and fries. The food arrived after a while and the onion rings looked..... special. Like fried fish more than onion rings. I tried one and the flavor was bland. There was 0 seasoning in this batter. It was tasteless and I could not bring myself to eat a whole one. I tried a second but it was just as bad. My husband agreed with how bad it was. His fries were marginally better but had no salt on them. The pulled pork was no worse or better than any other place I have been. You get no choice on the bbq sauce they just have one. No fire to it and slightly sweet. Over all not worth a stop by. A man ( maybe homeless) ask for a glass of water and they ran him off. Very sad. A little human kindness would have been nice. We had to flag the hostess to get our bill because the waitress was no where in site. Oh and there was some kid screaming at the top of his voice acting like an animal and no one dealt with it (at least. The homeless guy was quiet and polite)

My girlfriend and I went there after a long day and the atmosphere is amazing, the food was not. We ordered the baby back ribs and a sandwich. Everything was super bland, she even doused her sandwich in sause to make it edible. I only ate the skin of the ribs. The soft drinks were bad too, couldn't think you could mess that up. They tasted like they were watered down. Not sure of their machine was broken, but this was as of 5/13/18.

MOVIE BUFF!!! Okay so I love the movie Top Gun and I had no idea this is the place where they filmed the final bar scene and the scene when goose was playing the piano. Maybe I was caught up in the moment and a little "star struck" but I loved this place. The food was good I have had better BBQ this was about average. EXCEPT their coleslaw! It was vinegar based (which is getting harder and harder to find) it definitely made the meal for me. We ordered the sampler with all the different meats and four sides. Since we were all doing low carb we doubled up on beans and slaw so I can't comment on the other sides. If you are a fan of the movie Top Gun you need to stop in here. If you have ever seen the movie you should stop in here. If you're looking for something close to the hotels that is a little more laid back you should go here. It's kind of tight inside but go prepared for that and there won't be any surprises. There was seating outside but it was a little to cold for that.
