Being raised eating Mexican food I would say that my standards are fairly high. Vivo definitely pleasantly surprised me. The chips and salsa are great. The chips were light and airy and the salsa was spicier than I would typically care for but the flavor was so good I couldn’t stop eating it. I ordered a Regular Blood Orange Margarita and it was more potent than I expected as I was only able to finish half. So, go with a small if you don’t have a high alcohol tolerance. For dinner I ordered the Flautas and they were fantastic. They came with this Salsa Verde that was great for dipping. Would definitely recommend trying this place out!

Yum! I've been here a few times - loved the nachos and would definitely recommend. This place has some of the best chips and salsa. The salsa is complex, delicious, and perfectly spicy. The chips are salty, and crispy. Super delicious. I've always had great service here. I like that often when you go in they'll bring little pitchers of water so that you can refill your own glass as needed. I have had the salad (new year) the chicken was well cooked, but I wish I would have gotten the shrimp, because my friend's looked even better. I had a special menu lunch special - mole enchiladas which were complex and tasty. It's a place where I'll even eat the rice because I can't help it. The drinks are not only gorgeous, but delicious as well! They don't use any unidentifiable tequilas - so even the house margaritas are great. Location - easy to park, and surprisingly beautiful inside decor and atmosphere given it is in a strip mall.

Vivo was a great find for my first Tex-Mex night out in Austin. They have lots of vegetarian choices which are helpfully labeled as such on the menu, which includes crispy tacos enchiladas and more. At least three of the tacos were vegetarian as were some of the happy hour specials. They also brought chips to the table with satisfyingly hot salsa. The chips were kind of puffy which I am not used to, but they definitely filled me up. I ordered the “Emma’s Choice” where you get to choose tier favorite “puffy” taco (I chose the poblano mushroom from the happy hour menu served puffy style with cheese) and your choice of an enchilada (I chose the spinach). It’s all served with rice and beans. It definitely tasted super good, but it was a pretty heavy meal. The taco on its own was very filling albeit a bit oily. (ahh the sacrifices we make for the satisfying crunch) The enchilada had spinach and mushrooms in it. It was also definitely good but fairly heavy. I loved the beans and rice! These were both spot-on and gave the plate a classic Mexican dish feel to it. (Versus Tex-Mex. [It’s also possible I don’t really know what Tex-Mex is.]) Service was very quick and friendly Vivo is an upscale restaurant with reasonable prices. I was there fairly early in the dinner hour and the place was completely packed. This is definitely a place where vegetarian can get a great, very filling meal, and have lots to choose from.

OK, not great, but I'll go again cause it's a nice atmosphere and the food is good

Everyone I was with enjoyed their meal - good for a mix of carnivores and herbavores, drinkers and non-drinkers.
