Not gonna lie I was kind of disappointed. I would like to point out that the only reason this is a 3 star instead of a 2 or 1 is because the fried chicken wings were perfect! They had a thin batter and lovely flavoring. However for you to serve your waffles with fake butter is blasphemy! When a person eats chicken and waffles both the syrup and butter make a difference. Buttery vegetable spread is not real butter and whatever syrup was used wasn't that great either. I also didn't like that everything was dirty looking and outdated. Take pride in your shop and please fix it up. Even the bathroom faucet is constantly on since you can't close it all the way. I won't be coming here again.

Really good quality food for low price. Very satisfied with my breakfast there. Updated 5-6-2018 After going there several more times I had to up my star rating from 4 to 5 stars. I simply can't get enough of this place. Whenever I'm in Detroit and it's before noon, I'm going to ham shop without a doubt. Their food is hearty, flavorful, and has that down-home sort of feel that keeps people coming back. They serve Dearborn Ham there, so if you order a side of ham with your breakfast you get a small plate of thick slabs of perfectly grilled ham that I simply can't get enough of. That's my favorite thing on their menu. Everything I've had there is spot on and delicious, but the ham is my favorite. My wife swears by their chicken and waffles, which is a thick waffle the size of a dinner plate, with fried boneless chicken piled on top and a full container of syrup on the side for you to use at your discretion. Always looks amazing when they bring it out. If you love a good American breakfast and you're in the Motor City, you've got to check out Ham Shop.

When I think of old City restaurants THIS is the place that fits that image. Although I've only experienced the breakfast here it's one of my favorite nooks. The gentleman who is behind the grill know how to make the perfect omelette. However the one big downfall of this place (and why I can't give it a 5) is it's cleanliness. It's clean don't get me wrong, it just looks like it could use a good power wash to the floor and the grout.

You can always spot the good diners by looking at where the cops eat. Ham Shop is where the cops eat breakfast. This is a no frills, awesome meal for under $10. Pretty hard to top that downtown.

Located a block away from Greektown, local diner fare. Minimal customer service. After someone slid the plate of food on my table no one approached me again to check on me. The pancakes rapidly absorbed any amount of syrup or butter I put on them. I didn't even get a check. The only interaction happened when I went to pay for my meal...even then not a thank you or a cheerful smile. Food was mediocre. Carryout seemed popular here.
