Smokey meats and beans with an historic and low profile location. Sauce was flavorful yet thin. Went for a private party on a Monday and it was fun and crowded and stuffy. It is such a small space for such a popular place. Why haven't they expanded? Especially when bands play in the same dining area.

This is such a special and original place. There is nothing else quite like it. The ambience is remarkable! The vibe and the music are like nothing else. On my recent visit, however, the wait service was very poor and the food was mediocre. We waited over 1.5 hours for our food while watching others who arrived later be served. Once served, some of the food was not hot. I love BBs. Hopefully, this was just a one time lapse. Otherwise, just go later for the beer and the music!

Went for lunch on Friday and really enjoyed the cheese steak sandwich. You need to be hungry to tackle that beast. I prefer going to EBbs for lunch rather than dinner. I don't go frequently but have never been disappointed. Service is good and they always have a near capacity crowd.

Relatively good bang for the buck. The Big Walter is massive. The service is decent, and you get your food in a timely manner. I dig the juke joint feel with eras of concert flyers and mementos adorning the walls and ceilings in an authentic, not polished way. It feels gritty and real. We go 2-3 times a year, never disappoints.

What I want to impart is that I'm not convinced the food is authentic, but it is good. I don't believe anyone there knows what a philly cheese steak is. Mine was brisket covered in nacho cheese with some onions and moderately cooked peppers. The BBQ sauce (served with the cheese steak) was sweet; I mean cinnamon sweet. I had some 'gumbo', but in place of starting with a roux it was a tomato base. It's like they copied down their recipes from a passing train. However all their ingredients were fresh and seasoned well. Maybe a bit unusual, but I'd be inclined to go back just to see how they interpret the rest of their menu.
