Best sushi in Winston. They aren't stingy with fish either. The hot food is very good as well! It's not a fancy looking shop, but nobody needs that. (If you do, we don't want you here. Please go away.)

The sushi was awesome and staff was very nice. Don't much care for tv's in restaurants but other than that very pleasant.

I had my very first sushi at Ichiban 21 years ago, when I was only 17 years old. My friend Kristen and I dared each other to try raw fish; and while I was put off by it at first, I found myself craving sashimi the very next day. Two decades later, I'm hooked. I've eaten sushi at dozens of other restaurants, but Ichiban is by far my favorite, and I go there at least a few times every month. They have honestly NEVER served me a bad piece of fish, and they aren't heavy on sauce like a lot of other Americanized sushi restaurants. The first roll I ever purchased, the Ichiban Roll (a small version of the Rainbow Roll) is my favorite to this day. While I agree with some other reviewers that the non-sushi offerings are not great, those are simply not the reason to come to Ichiban -- just like you shouldn't go to an American seafood restaurant and expect them to have a good hamburger. That being said, the Vietnamese items on the menu, such as pho and bahn mi sandwiches, are excellent; and the homemade strawberry cake with kiwi (made by the owner's wife) is OUT OF THIS WORLD. It puts Dewey's next door to shame, and reminds me that Vietnam (the homeland of the owner) was once a french colony. Great food, great staff (they keep the same servers year after year), and a friendly owner. I can safely say that Ichiban is one of my favorite restaurants in Winston-Salem.

BBQ Vietnmese Sandwhich was DELICIOUS! Bread wasn't your traditional french bread but similar and nonetheless was soft and delicious. Also fantastic price ($4ish range for a full sandwhich!). Highly recommended and will be coming back to try other dishes.

You won't find better beef yaki soba anywhere. The service here is delightful and the prices are great. But the food is FANTASTIC. My wife likes their chicken fried rice and we like their ginger dressing on the salad too. But I'm telling you, that yaki soba is so good!
