My sister and I did the dinner tasting. Wine pairings were quite good. The food was generally quite good too but a couple of the dishes weren't really my thing or perhaps slightly missed the mark in terms of balance of flavours, and I'm usually not a picky eater at all (as in I like and eat just about everything). Seems like sometimes it can be hit or miss with such experimental flavors. To be honest, I expected a bit more from a restaurant of this caliber and price (it's probably the most I've spent on dinner in my life) but it also wouldn't be fair to call it disappointing either. It probably makes sense to check the menu before booking but that may be hard to do since it's so popular (or in our case, we were in town for a short time).

Beast is one of the restaurants that are hard to get a reservation at, and rightfully so! We were lucky to book a table for a Sunday brunch last minute, and enjoyed a surprisingly diverse and creative three-course meal. Both the presentation and taste of the dishes were fantastic, and a set of petit fours was a welcomed addition to the after-brunch coffee. The menu changes daily, and includes best-in-season local ingredients, prepared and served with great attention to details. The restaurant offers only set menus, which are priced right and let you simply enjoy the experience without worrying about your choice. After trying the brunch menu, we decided to book a dinner at Beast for our next visit to Portland.

The menu changes frequently enough that discussing the individual dishes from my visit would be misleading and unhelpful. The theme of our visit was a dining experience that paired world-class execution and vision with a familial and friendly ambiance. The wine pairings emphasized natural wines (many of which were local) that resonated gloriously with the dish at hand. Each course was both imaginative and elegant, while never being intimidating. The staff was friendly and open to casual discourse. The limited seating made the experience feel very intimate. I have not eaten at a comparable restaurant in Portland, and I would pit Beast against ANY dining experience I've had so far.

It was the last day of our trip to Portland and we actually had a brunch reservation elsewhere. But as soon as an opportunity presented to get a reservation at Beast, we immediately changed our plans. We had a lovely table outside, so we were able to to enjoy the food in a quiet and relaxing way. I think what distinguishes a fantastic restaurant from simply a good one is the fact that you can completely forget what kind of delicious and beautifully presented food you had, but you will never forget the experience. In this sense, Beast is definitely a fantastic restaurant.

So delicious and really well priced (I live in SF so that's my barometer for price). Great food, really big portions, and the ambiance was phenomenal. I'd say pace yourself with the food because there are so many dishes and they are so large. I'd put it at the top of my list for Portland restaurants.
