I can't say enough about the Grey Moss Inn. It is a truly special out-of-the-way spot, and a San Antonio-area gem. Hidden away on Scenic Loop in Grey Forest, if you blink you'll miss it (and probably get pulled over by Grey Forest PD). Nearly 100 years old, the ambiance suggests it looks pretty much the same as the day it opened. There's an ages-old candlestick at every table, and they light up the fireplace on cold nights. Olive rolls come with dinner; they're simple but delicious. All meats, including steaks, lamb, seafood, chicken, quail, and sometimes wild game are grilled to tender perfection over an old well outside. Sides and salads are always on point. Desserts are decadent, and there is an impressive selection of beer, wine, and spirits available. Fun fact: the property is reputed to be haunted. The friendly staff loves to tell their ghost stories, especially on slow nights.

Grand little place in the middle of San Antonio's hill country. All wood fired, smoked meats and sides. Everything was incredible at this place. Service was great, made some really great recommendations to make we got what we wanted and even saved some $ too. Will be back again and highly recommend it to any one has not yet been.

Nice flavors and the meat was done well over an open pit wood fired BBQ. Our server was good, but pacing seemed a little slow between our appetizer and main course. We had prime rib and a filet, as well as mushrooms to start and a variety of deserts to finish it off. Nice quiet place to eat in a nice old building with a lot of character.

I heard so much about this place. To be honest I don't know why. The pepper steak was so overwhelmed with pepper, it was not edible. Ordered a shrimp cocktail, but the shrimp had a toxic smell to it. Our food came with a side of some kind of zucchini with chorizo. We love zucchini, but this one was really a poor combination and the taste was less than desirable. The pecan pie was good and so was our waiter We all wanted to love this place, but were extremely disappointed.

We had a very nice dinner here a few months back. It was nice outside, so we sat on the patio, but we were the only patrons to sit outside so I actually have no idea what it looks like on the inside. Our server had tables inside and us, but she never skipped a beat - she was perfectly attentive and in tune with our service needs, and very friendly. She recommended dishes and was knowledgeable about the menu when asked about certain dishes - opposed to some restaurants (I seem to do this a lot) when I ask "Which is better, dish x or y? Which ones to people like better?" Sometimes servers respond "It's up to you." Which I don't find particularly helpful - but in this case she was very insightful, and I honestly can't remember what we ordered (this was a visit back in May) but all 4 of us loved our meals, and everything was very well prepared and presented. This is the type of place where the wine list is extensive, and you just know they have this awesome cellar with everything in its own bin, and the did have quite an extensive offering. Our server guided us on this as well, recommending perfect wines within our budget. The patio was nicely lit with lights in the trees, they had a big fan/air circulator (did I mention it was May??) so it had been quite a warm day, but it was just pleasant enough to sit outside and enjoy our meal. I would go back again for special meals, birthdays or celebrations etc, and try sitting inside next time so I can experience the ambience of this 1920s home/turned restaurant.
