Family-run, Mexican restaurant. It’s exactly what you hope to find. Really good, authentic food in a place that needs updated decor and furniture. But that’s the charm and appeal of places like this. We spent three months in the area from San Antone, and this place would do just as well in Texas. The food is inexpensive, pretty good, great options (try lamb soups/tacos), and made-to-order. You can head downtown and find more hip places, but this hits the spot if you’re in the area.

First I ordered the wired steak. There was so much salt my lips puckered. They brought me another meal but I asked for the sauce on the side; no go. The booths were so wobbly, I felt every move the people behind me made. The other side of the booth had a broken seat so it would rise up when you sat in it. The grocery store within was cool and the baked goods were amazing. That's what kept this rating from being 1 star.

Generally speaking the food is very good and the portions are very generous. Long time waiting for the table while you see empty tables. The service is not the fastest but very knowledgeable. The enchilada was very good. We also had red sangria but was not are preference. I would say it is a great place to meet some friends but not a place to have a romantic dinner or a quiet family meal with Grandma.

I'm not sure why this place has the rating it does. Maybe it's not fair to give it one star but I owe it to the restaurant's average to rate it so low. I'm mainly rating it also because of the word-of-mouth advertising I get for this place. "Where's a good Mexican place in Norfolk?" "Oh, you gotta go to Jesse's." No, you really shouldn't. It's run-down, bland, service is so-so and it's an overall disappointing experience. Drinks were extremely weak and expensive. My wife and I left feeling completely dissatisfied.

Traditional Mexican food. Good meal. Qusadilla supreme, beer, what's not to like. The marinated pork was excellent. Rest was as expected. Two of them, two drinks, $45 for two people w tip. Service was good, quality was good.
