I was talking to the President of the Frontenac Heritage Foundation. I said that while I loved living in an 1860 limestone home, maintenance is an ongoing issue. It's not the stone but all the wooden windows and peeling paint. She suggested I go the Living Rooms and have a look at the Allback linseed oil-based paints from Sweden. I did go the Living Rooms and spoke to Jessica. She said that in countries where buildings are centuries old, linseed oil paints last decades rather than years. Today's linseed oil paints have been cleaned, sterilised, use natural pigments and contain no solvents. It was for these reasons that Living Rooms owners Michael and John adopted the Allback paints. They are very ecologically conscious and sell products that are non-toxic, natural, healthy and ethically sourced. I decided to paint a new wood 4'x6'x10' shed and paid close to $400. It seemed expensive but I need to start with coat of the pure linseed oil followed by three coats of the pigmented linseed paint. I'll check the shed in the next 10-20 years and let you know how the paint performed.

Great place to find eco-alternatives to everyday house items. They also have an amazing selection of less toxic house paints and eco-friendly building materials.
