my wife has known these people for many years. she made a personal loan[meaning her money] to this company with a promise that the complete amount+5% would be paid back within 45 days. this was a red flag for me as why would a long established company need a loan to obtain working capital to complete a job, unless they could go to a bank. in any event i kept silent and she made the loan. when the amount came due, they had many reasons why they could not pay the amount back. time passed without any contact, less excuses from time to time. they agreed to floor this house as well as carpet it,leaving us owning them $4k. their workers did come and put down flooring in the kitchen area, and the front entrance way. the job was shoddy to describe it at best. there are gaps at the rear french doors at the sill, the upper bathrooms and the lower bath were never finished, they said they didn't order enough but took home 4-6 boxes, that we had paid for. almost 2 months have passed with "carpet is on the way" and finally the owners have told her that she must front them $7k more up front since they don't have the money to pay for the rest of the materials to finish the job.we[my wife and i] saved up for 4 years to pay for the recarpet/reflooring of this house. now we have a half assed job that is not finished, and only excuses. is this the type of people you want to deal with??? i think not. i would not deal with them if you have to front a single penny for "supplies". you may never see anything in return. in any event we intend to on following up any legal paths open to us.although most of the money was my wifes i had a 1/3 stake in it hence my becoming involved. i say again, beware. being treated like family is something you can do without.
