The house I bought 3 years ago had no floor covering at all since it was built 15 years before I bought it, making a total of 18 years with nothing but bare concrete downstairs, and bare plywood in the upstairs loft. After taking care of other property priorities first, I focused on getting some flooring installed. I went with Feltner Floors because their business is located very close to me. Their flooring installer came to my house twice on a pre-installation walk-thru inspection. His on-site visit was very helpful to me in terms of discussing with someone who knows floors the many options I never realized were possible for floor treatment. I finally decided on carpet tiles for the living/dining room, and sheet vinyl for the kitchen and little downstairs toilet. A 600 s/f downstairs floor area isn't much, but the floor layout presented challenges. The most difficult being my kitchen, and what made that so tricky (tricky to my eyes) is that Feltner's prefers to install floor covering underneath all major appliances (stove, fridge, dishwasher). It's just a better way to go than butting up the vinyl sheet to the front of the appliance (which makes it hard to pull out the appliance if you need to in the future. However, doing things this way means that alll measurements of the appliance cubbies must be extremely precise -- especially so in my kitchen because the aim was to install a single 1-piece vinyl sheet (no seams). There is the task of moving the appliances out of the way for accurate measurement access. Then measuring the complex dimensions of the kitchen/toilet floor. Then there is precision cutting of the vinyl sheet off-site. Then bringing that pre-cut sheet into the house and installing it. I would guess probably no more than a half-inch of vinyl trimming was necessary to achieve final installation. It was just astonishing work by Dave and Steve, the installers. The entire flooring job was an amazing feat of technical work and the finished project looks so nice I don't know how to act. Makes me want to get rid of half my furniture just so I can see more of the carpet and vinyl. In the photos I've posted with this review, bear in mind that everything you see was bare concrete BEFORE. I'm liking the AFTER view a whole lot better!
