DO NOT HIRE THIS GUY!!! 5 years ago he installed a wood floor for us and within a week we had a "speed bump" in our living room. Long story short, he blamed us. We had to have a wood inspector out and now have found a great guy to repair the floor at our expense.

I recently had my floors done in my home by Tom and his staff and I will say that I am astonished at the other reviews I am reading on here because none of my experience even mirrored what was mentioned in these other reviews. Tom was very competitive when he bid the job for my home. He was not the lowest bidding contractor but came highly recommended from the references he provided. He showed up on time and started the job when they said they would. My floors look amazing and I only wish I had more home that I could install floors in!

This guy is a scam artist! I never even knew about him till people started calling my phone! Yes! My phone number is illegally listed on here as his and so many upset people keep calling me saying he sold them lumber with toxic levels of formaldehyde! I'm still dealing with getting my number removed off this page. Also apparently there is a law suit out for him as well because either Tom himself or one of his workers got into a physical altercation with one of their clients! Please save yourself the agony! I never even wanted anything to do with Tom Shinn or his scams but they decided to illegally use my phone number and now I'm just use to dealing with angry phone calls from people who were scammed by him.

BEWARE! I would advise to not use Tom Shinn Custom Floors. We had him install pre-finished hardwood floors in our 2400 sq. ft home. It was horrible! He was unprofessional, workers showed up to the house intoxicated, and the work was done with very low quality. In fact, one year after, we are forced to work with another vendor to address all of the issues.

I dislike posting negative reviews, but I also want to make sure no one else has to deal with the same experience that I have. Tom Shinn was hired by our contractor to install pre-finished hardwood floors. The first day they were very late and the entire project ran behind schedule. This is not that unusual and I wish the story ended there. Unfortunately, the flooring material that was installed was defective. The manufacturer was certainly at fault but I don't see how Tom's team could have installed all the material (large living room, + 3 bedrooms) without noticing the faulty material. Regardless, the manufacturer agreed to cover the costs to refinish the material. So far so good. Tom also agreed to refinish the material (sanding, staining, clear coating) and for the inconvenience (we paid movers to move all the heavy furniture after the floors were done, and now we have to repack, move all the furniture out, not access our house while the floors are drying, etc.), he also agreed to sand and finish the kitchen and family room to match the color of the living room. Also, good. Unfortunately (again), he is again behind schedule since he won't pay overtime for his team, even though he is getting paid to redo the work. Worse, he is now backing out of his "promise" to match the kitchen and family room to the living room stain. It's hard enough dealing with home renovations, but dealing with someone that doesn't keep his word is over the top. To add insult to injury, his team didn't refinish the closet in one of the bedrooms. Please save yourself the pain and heartache and deal with a more reputable floor specialist that is trustworthy.
