I've been going here on and off for almost 20 years. The people that work here are great! They know what there doing and they have everything I need for flooring supplies.

Simon is a wealth of information and we buy all of our supplies from SIS. This where the contractors & professionals go for all floor covering supplies and sundries. SIS is in Portland also. I'm sure there is another option for the person who feels they are an extra special installer with limited experience, a giant head and ego to match.

I can't say enough about how wonderful my experiences have been with Salem Installation Supplies. They are friendly, quick, knowledgeable and so helpful with anything I'm needing to accomplish. I have NEVER has a bad experience with this company and they go above and beyond to make sure that we are taken care of. We have dealt with numerous building suppliers and manufacturers over the years and I wish we could have this kind of service everywhere we shop. Prices are fair and materials are good. I would highly recommend this store and local business to anyone. You will not be disappointed.

Unfortunately, I had a very unpleasant experience with this business. I like to support smaller, local businesses whenever possible, and SIS falls into that category. As a maintenance technician for a national Retirement Community chain, I had used them previously for the otherwise "hard to find" materials. I really had little to complain about until recently. I went in looking for 6" vinyl wall base and was trying to match the color of the existing base as closely as possible, to repair a small tear in the middle of a wall run. I first looked through the sample chain to see if there were any that matched the color code that I had. They didn't carry the specific color, so I was taken to the warehouse to look for a comparable color. I found a cut remnant (33') that I thought might be a close match. (Without having a suitable replacement, I didn't want to remove a peice of the existing to use as a sample). I purchased the entire remnant and went about my way. Never was I informed of the policy of "no return on cut pieces". Once I got the piece to the bathroom, I saw that it just was not going to work with the existing color scheme. The piece had no visible damage and was kept clean and in good condition. I called SIS 5 days later to ask about returning the piece for another color or refund and was told that they didn't accept return on cut items. This was a $40 piece (for which I was charged a $3.50 "cut fee" even though the piece was a remnant to begin with and was purchased whole/not cut) that was over 30 feet long. It's not like I was trying to return 5 feet of cove base. I explained that the piece was lying there cut when I bought it and that returning it would be like it never left the warehouse. I didn't even need a refund if they didn't want. I was willing to find another remnant of another color, but was told "sorry, that's our policy and if we change it for you....." Needless to say, regardless of "store policy", I find it a bit disheartening to think that what I considered a local resource (whose income would be put back into the community) was so unwilling to satisfy a good, frequent customer. Until this point, I thought of them as a unique, friendly little shop. Now I am just dissapointed at the lack of customer service. At least try to work something out with a guy, rather than handing me off to the manager who rudely and abruptly spits forth "company policy" without listening to my argument.
