5-31-18 - Years ago, in a former life, I was a marine mechanic. Now, with encroaching senility, I rely on luck to discover where I put the oil drain plug. But through experience I learned that diagnosis is an art. And when it's backed with knowledge and skill, you have: By the Book. Phoebe's CHECK ENGINE LIGHT came on in the California Sierras. By the time we got to Albuquerque she'd had nearly every emissions component replaced, but was STILL having intermittent bouts of hiccups. And The CHECK ENGINE LIGHT continued to glow. Overlanding - vehicle-based exploration -- is distinguished from RVing and Offroading by an emphasis on culture and remote places. In Phoebe, a 1996 Geo Tracker with 4wd, I rarely travel more than 50 miles a day. My wine cellar has a range of interesting vintages and includes a variety of stouts and porters. From the Gulf of Mexico to Alaska, Phoebe gets me "home" every evening, frequently into places where it's virtually certain we'll have it to ourselves. The wires, hidden inside the harness, had, due to a missing bracket, been abraded and finally broken, keeping the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) from doing its job. We're slowly getting her restored. As a retired art dealer, I know the meaning of "fine." Increasingly rare, it's fundamental at By the Book. (blog: Wahnfried der Nomad)

I would like to express my outstanding experience how Daniel and his staff have been to me over many years. Daniel has serviced my cars 3 plus times and have never had to return my vehicle due to something that was not addressed when my car was under their care. This includes an engine install, usually there are some sort of issues that arise when an engine is installed with little adjustments over weeks for it to run optimally. Not with By the Book, it was one and done! My advice to you is give Daniel a try and you will no be disappointed.

Had the pleasure of having my diesel chevy repaired here. After many horrible experiences with the dealer I took it to Daniel. He was very knowledgeable and helpful and fixed the truck in a very timely manner. I will gladly return to him for future repairs.

Highly recommended! Look no further. Honest, reputable repair shop with fair pricing and quality labor. We were passing through ABQ from out of state and suddenly needed a hub and bearing replacement on our F250 Superduty. Was also due for new brakes and fuel filters. Daniel and his crew worked until 8PM to ensure that we could get back on the road safely - the same day. Thank you!
