Monterey transmission & tires

Paid for a transmission rebuild under warranty and signed a contract. The transmission went out again and was told I needed to pay $600 to get it rebuilt again due to the transmission being loose. I restated the fact that I had a warranty and not even three months at passed he then proceeded to drop the price an additional $200 which is still unacceptable since I paid for a warranty. I now have a dead truck and was told that my stuff will be removed from the truck and a lein will be placed on my truck. I have been threatened and treated unfairly, the goal is to rip people off and do piss poor work. I will be contacted the better business bureau to report the company and am currently considering small claims court since I just paid $1250 in April and it's now August and the transmission is already dead again

This review is over a year in the making - so if you need a new transmission or you aren't sure if this shop is the right choice; either buckle up for the whole review or skip to the TL;DR at the bottom. About a year and a half ago, my wife's 03 Camry Solara starting experiencing tranny/drivetrain issues, and with 75k on it, we were not sure where to start. I took it to Toyota, who charged me $300 for inconclusive answers, basically a mix of "Could be x, could be Y; so we want to repair it all for $6000" (Which for anyone who has even seen/driven a Solara knows they aren't worth half that. With my wife attached to her car, we took it to another mechanic locally for a second opinion, who diagnosed the issue as a faulty transmission, with an estimate at $5500 - again, far more than the car would ever be worth. Finally, after calling around I found Salvador (Jose's shop manager) who seemed to actually care about the problem and explained to me what the problem could be. (Although I am extremely knowledgeable about vehicles; having built a handful of blocks/trannys in my day, Salvador was extremely helpful in a non-descending way) (Additionally, no hablo espanol muy bien - and yet they did not get frustrated with me) After having the car towed to his shop, they diagnosed it within one day, and let me know I would need a new transmission, at a cost of $2300 OTD. Even though I disagree with the value of the car, my wife does not - so we took it. They had to order parts from overseas, which made sense since I can't even order replacement parts online for this POS car. A week and a half later, we had the car back and working like new! However, a couple days later - the problem came back - identical to before the work. We took it back to the shop, and they rebuilt the tranny again, at a cost of $0.01 (I think he charged me 1 cent to drive a point that they care about me) Problem went away for a week, and then returned. This time we had it towed back, and they brought in a tech to diagnose why it kept burning up the tranny. They were able to pin it to a faulty ECM (Engine control module) and even had me come in to speak to the mechanic about why this was causing the new trannys to burn up so fast. Salvador showed me the invoice Toyota sent him for the new ECM (ECM's are highly protected by manufacturers, you can't run down to Autozone and plug n' play with one) which included a Toyota Tech to program the ECM. An extra $900ish later, they rebuilt the tranny and put in a new ECM and the problem was gone! For good this time, and I can say that with an extra 25k on the car and not a single hint of problems. Flash forward a month ago. My 07 F150 starting experiencing power train problems - and I took it to a local shop. (Rhymes with Marry's Truck and Auto; but starts with an L) This shop royally screwed up my truck. They charged me $2100 and left me with a truck more screwed than it started. Frustrated, I returned to Jose's who offered to rebuild my entire transmission for $1800- which is less than half Ford quoted me. (Ford did a rebuild on this truck 65k ago, and it was garbage. They reused parts, did not QA the truck and seemed to not care at all) I brought my truck in on Saturday, and just got it back on a Wednesday (Although it was ready Tuesday!) After doing a detailed breakdown of what was wrong with my tranny, Salvador showed me what they did - which left me confident the problems will not return. I don't even know why I went to another shop - Monterey Transmission the the clear choice. As someone with 5 cars of varying age/value, I would trust all of them here. TL;DR - This shop is the clear choice for any transmission/powertrain repairs. They are very well priced, deliver on time and do quality work. Don't waste your time elsewhere. Also: Shout out to Jose's son Tony - you are way ahead of your time. Coming from the hospitality business, I can tell you clearly care about customers.

I needed tires badly for my truck I had one flat and the other weather crack. I had spoken to Tony the owners son for a set of tires and he was able to accommodate my crazy schedule to the point he open the shop after it was closed. During that time other customer showed up, not nowing they were closed, for needed tire repair. Even though Tony was the only one there he still help everyone out . I can't tank him enough. Awesome shop and props to his parents for raising a good kid.

Our 2005 Dodge Ram (189k miles) was having transmission problems (sometimes the engine would rev up without engaging the next gear at around 20 mph, the rest of the time it would not shift to higher gears). I talked to the Technician and he said to bring it in for a free evaluation. He took a look at it and gave it a test drive. He gave me a thorough explanation of his findings and what was likely going on inside the transmission. All of his explanations made sense and fit the symptoms that we have observed. The diagnosis was that there are likely lots of metal bits floating around and burned clutch material. It needed to be rebuilt. After talking to my old lady we decided to rebuild it given that this Truck has a value and we heavily use it. He did not try to push any repairs and was completely honest about the situation.
