Very Dissatisfied Customer

Bob did a terrible job. He was supposed to have rebuilt my 3.0L Ford Ranger. I paid Bob and took the engine home and reinstalled it into my truck. I started the engine and it knocked. I drove the truck with the knocking engine back to Bob for him to listen and he said I damage the engine while installing. I removed the engine and tore it down and looked at the cylinders and they were pitted. I reassembled the engine and used it for a core. I bought a well rebuilt engine from S&J Engines in Spokane, WA. They shipped a short block to my driveway. The core was picked up and shipped to S&J. The S&J engine was far superior to anything that Bob could have done.

Duane is no longer employed and Bob is back in the shop. I am apprenticing and we are as busy as ever. Stop by and say hello!

Bob and Duane are both super knowledgeable and totally willing to help. They do fanominal work and at a very reasonable price. I had them resurface a crankshaft that he didn't think could be machined. He did the shopping for me and found a brand new crank for a good price and had everything finished that same week. He also found some gouges in one of the connecting rods I gave him, called to let me know he had already found a new one and was working on putting the new pistons on them. Great service and would definitely recommend.

Wow am I glad I dont give a lot of credibility to online reviews : ) I have been looking for a machine shop to do some specialty engine work where the work we agreed upon would be completed quickly with the high level of quality and commitment to honesty/customer service I expect. After having been disappointed by a two other Willamette Valley Machine shops, I found BFER in Corvallis, I had read other reviews that were not all positive, so I stopped by the BFER shop and talked to Duane. I am very glad I did. We talked about what I needed done, cost, and timeline and I left it in Duane's hands. To my suprise, the work was finished days sooner than expected and at a lower cost than any other Willamette Valley machine shop. I know where I will be taking the rest of my machine work ! I also learned that the price/services list on the BFER homepage are not what is charged for each service listed. The prices in the list were entered as a guide without that being clarified and the webpage is soon to be updated/renovated. Thank You Again to the guys at BFER, Job well done!

I have dealt with these guys several times over the years. While they are knowledgable and do good work, my most recent experience with them soured me on using them ever again and this is due in large part to Bob's right hand man Duane. I guess being the only game in town has given him the sense that its ok to treat your customers with disrespect. While my engine rebuild jobs may just be a drop in the bucket to them since Im always on extremely tight budgets, that shouldnt be cause to treat me like Im a second class citizen. I have since discovered that the Carquest shop in Albany does engine machine work and is more in line with industry standard prices, so I will be spending my hard earned money there in the future. In this day and age you can only go so long treating your customers like crap before your customers start taking their business elsewhere. Too bad, I actually like Bob, but he is rarely ever there anymore.
