Great company! Mike, the service manager always does what he says he's going to do. I feel very comfortable referring this company to my friends and family. It's not always easy finding a mechanic shop that you know can be trusted hundred percent. This is one of those.

We came in from nearby to buy a used pickup, and we took it here to have a pre-purchase and safety inspection done. It passed, so we bought it and drove it home. On the drive home we noticed some issues, so the next morning we took it to a different shop. They informed us that it had a code for a bad transmission, the brakes were completely unsafe (worn to the cooling fins), among a laundry list of other problems that would have easily been a deal-breaker for purchase. We called Portland Automotive to ask why they didn't catch these issues and found that they didn't test drive it, didn't run the codes and "couldn't check the brakes because it had locking hubs" (we saw the bad brakes with our own eyes while the other shop had it on the lift). They told us to pound sand, basically, that they can't catch "everything" and that we should sell it to the next sucker to come along. We would have been better off not trusting their professional opinions at all, and going with our gut judgements! They refunded our money but the damage was done. We couldn't in good faith offload our new problem to someone else, nor could we drive it with unsafe brakes, so we had the repairs done at a third shop and in total paid over a thousand more for the repairs than we paid for the KBB value of the truck. I would not recommend this shop to anyone who has a shred of integrity, or to anyone who wants the person they hire to perform the tasks they hired them for.

I've used this shop for eight years and never had an issue. The owner has always been fair with pricing and if there is a change with the initial quote, he will contact you to explain the cost increase, then you decide if you want him to proceed with the service. He's honest and reliable.

Really knowledgeable. I have had a noise on my car for the last year. I took the car into multiple mechanics, no-one could pinpoint where the sound was coming from. They did! And they did all the work for a really good price. I'm so happy with my experience here.

I have used Portland Automotive for all of my personal and business vehicle repair needs for the last seven or more years, good local shop.
