Top real estate company in the city. Couldn't ask for a better more skillful group

Mar 2, 2018
We listed a rental with the Guy McPhee team in early February and received a single offer at the end of the month. We explained to the agent that we could not base our decision on the documents received (no bank statements, no job letters, no credit reports, no paystubs). What we received was a screenshot of what we assume to be both applicants' banking transactions for a single day (although we can't be sure since this very unofficial mobile screenshot did not include any names). The one that was legible indicated that the applicant spends ridiculous amounts, while the other screenshot was too blurry to discern anything. I expressed my concerns to the listing agent and told him we would have to discuss whether or not we would accept. We found it difficult to accept since we had no indication of whether or not the applicants could afford the place, and the application seemed to indicate that neither was working, and both were on disability. My response from Guy was that he has been renting out properties for years (as have I) and found this to be a good application. Without any discussion whatsoever, he unilaterally decided to send over release documents to terminate the contract. I explained that I thought it was unfair of him to terminate a contract simply because we didn't accept the first substandard offer we received. I found the application to be unprofessional and his response to my concerns to be much the same. We had the property listed on Kijiji and received applications but thought it would be easier to have someone pre-screen applicants for us. This was not the case. It was quite apparent to me that he didn't want to waste his time on anyone with standards. He actually suggested that in his email. I understand that he would make a lot less money off of this deal than a home buy or sell so he simply wasn't interested in putting in the effort for us. It's unfortunate because I think any client that trusts you enough to perform a service for them should receive a certain level of commitment and at least an attempt at quality service. I was thoroughly disappointed by the service I've received. After wasting a month of potential income, I'll repost myself now, not by choice. Next time I'll try Rob Golfi instead!
