With prices like that! Let's just say that I was able to find comparable draperies, through a 3rd party seller on a well known online shopping site, at about 1/4 the cost! Yes, I had to install them myself, but I could have hired a handyman for $50 to put up 4 curtain rods and hang the drapes for me. Maybe the quality of the draperies isn't the same / as good? I don't know. I can't tell. They look pretty much identical to me. Even if I had to replace them at some point ... I could replace them FOUR times given the amount of $ I saved buying them online. And the fact is that I likely WILL want to replace them at some point in a few years time as I'm not the type who likes to live with the same decor for decades at a stretch, nor be limited in future decorating options b/c I have to work around expensive draperies. I could have bought TWO sets of drapes, and change them in spring/fall and I'd STILL have paid less than half the price I was quoted from Ronald's. I don't mean it as a criticism. I'd say it is just a fact. Ronald's is more for the senior citizen crowd. Even still I'd say to them that they could get the same look at a fraction of the cost shopping online. Then use the money they saved for something else.

We recently had this company do window treatments, valances and blinds. 5 star quality and workmanship. They provided great suggestions and we couldn't be happier with the outcome.

I am very proud of my brother Jim. He has carried on the family business with class. There is much more to interior design than simply measuring for a blind , making a sale and following up with installation. Dad was a pioneer in the “shop at home” interior design business. Ronald’s bring a quality made product to your home. The application, colour and design are carefully chosen to ensure your personality and style is reflected in your home. Interior design is an art that is only perfected over time. The industry is continuously changing similar to the fashion industry and it’s a full time job just trying to keep up with all the new trends. Jim deals with all blinds of course but if you are a customer with class and pride of ownership, you want to treat your windows with draperies and shears, toppers, black out liners, matching upholstery, paint and carpets Not to mention having them made properly after the sale and then installing them so they look like the picture in the magazine. Sure, these treatments are fancy and more expensive. You could go into a big store and spend several thousand dollars dealing with inexperienced staff and never getting a picture perfect application. Jim came into the family business after getting his business degree when Dad and I were partners. We were very busy and didn’t have time to make it easy on poor Jim. Jim was working under me as an installer and I was not easy on him. Jim learned from the bottom of the business and eventually became a reliable, skilled and welcomed partner in the family business. You are not taking the right outlook. Ronald’s draperies offers the average person the opportunity to make their home look like a place right out of the magazine. The best part is because he offers shop at home service, his low overhead allows him to offer big discounts with decades of experience, lots of class at prices the average person can afford but didn’t know it. It’s worth having Jim give you a free consultation. He might just change your world!! Keep up the good work Jim. Dad would be proud of you and so am I Rob

I have to agree with other comment about this being an outdated business that would struggle to survive if it weren't such a long established family owned enterprise. Peterborough area is ripe for competition in drapes/blinds. I'd argue the pricing is over the top as well. Yes you get great quality product and professional installation .. but I think people are misled or misinformed about how difficult it really is (or isn't) to measure for and install window treatments. There's a variety of online businesses now that will custom make/cut what you want .. ship by courier in a couple of days .. they even provide detailed written and video instructions on how to measure, how to hang, etc. etc. Perhaps Ronald's is meant for a very particular niche customer - the very old and so-called "upper middle class" who are after a show home. And that's fine. For most people I'd suggest to them that they can get a lot more bang for their drapery/blind buck either shopping online or travelling out of the area AND doing a little bit of work on their own to properly measure and install: Manufacturers, retailers, and youtube are great for help with all that.

While they are excellent at what they do as far as draperies go, and I have used their services years ago, unfortunately the business has not kept up with modern times and modern customer needs and demands. Having staff in store who are unable to assist with rather common and basic customer requests - telling customers that only the owner can help them and he is out and that you can attempt to reach him by phone during a one hour window the next day - is not very helpful, useful and is certainly not good customer service. That, combined with other issues, was enough to send me to shop online for the products I needed on that occasion, and on another occasion when searching online for "Peterborough drapes" and not even finding Ronald's in local business listings, I shopped at an Oshawa competitor. It's now 2016 ... Time for local businesses to get with the times as far as technology, customer service, online shopping, social media, etc., ... or die a slow business death as many local businesses have, are, and will do. Perhaps more troubling than the problems I encountered was the owner's surprise that anyone would care about these issues - when I emailed him with my concerns - and his failure to grasp the need for business to adapt and adjust to the times. In a competitive business environment - particularly in 2016 with 24/7 online shopping - businesses need to recognize and accept that I don't accommodate them ... they accommodate me, or I go somewhere else.
