We needed to replace the majority of the outlets in our home and wire and install new ceiling lights. We needed the jobs done ASAP. Gunnar Electric gave a bid within 3 days and scheduled the work within a week. Our house is 100 years old with plaster walls, so the work was tricky. The estimator and the technician were very knowledgeable and explained our different options thoroughly. We are happy with the work and will definitely use them again.

Short story is that they didn't show up at the first appointment which I had taken a day off of work for, and then overcharged me for the hours they actually worked. The work done was good though. Here are some more details, for the interested: I was looking for an experienced electrician to install a simple outlet in my basement for a projector I was mounting on my ceiling. I called a few places, and Gunnar Electric was one of the first to call back, seemed friendly, and could get out to our house fairly quickly, so I went with them. They didn't have any hours outside of normal business hours. This wasn't a big deal; I just had to take a day off of work. They were scheduled to be to our house between 1-3pm. I waited around that day until about 1:30, and decided to call to simply verify that the appointment was still on schedule. They said it was, and politely reminded me that the scheduled time is both a range and an estimate. This isn't my first rodeo, so I understood. By 2:30, they called me back and said they would have be late to my appointment. By 4:00, they called me and said they couldn't show up because the previous appointment took longer than they were expecting. I tried my best to politely express my disappointment and the inconvenience it caused me to miss a day of work for nothing. Terry called me back and nicely explained to me that they could either send someone over at an overtime rate or come back another time and comp me the trip charge of $35. I opted for the latter. The next trip went very smoothly. I purposely scheduled it earlier in the day so there wouldn't be the risk of it being canceled due to another trip taking longer than expected. He showed up, was extremely nice, very professional, left virtually no trace of him being there, and I was very happy with the experience. The whole trip took less than an hour (I can see this because my security system records when people arrive and leave). About a month and a half later, I received the bill, which showed the trip charge of $35 comped, so it totaled $0. The shop materials were a bit more than I expected to run some wire, and put in an outlet, for $57.80, but I guess that's ok. What I was surprised about though, was that they charged 2 hours of labor at $110/hour. I'm 100% certain it took less than an hour for this guy to do this work, including clean up and paperwork. The fact that Gunnar regularly charges a "trip charge" implies that the hourly rate does *not* include drive time (since that would be double charging for the drive). However, I called Gunnar, and talked to Terry and he was only willing to bring the labor down to $167 (down from $220). At this point, I was being called into my 6 year old's conferences, so I wasn't able to contest this further. I guess the point is that the work done was good, but the scheduling was horrible, the pricing is unfair, and Terry seemed a little less than reasonable. I wouldn't use this company with so many other options available. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ update: 4/4/2018 Laura Karow, the president of Gunnar Electric sent me a very nice card apologizing for the poor service. She seemed genuinely remorseful, which leads me to believe that the issues I came across will be addressed for future service calls. I'll give them one more star for this kind gesture, in hopes that they are striving to improve.

Very slow to respond, would not recommend if looking for fast service

Two quick points, and a story to follow. First, this is the first negative review I have written. Second, my intentions are to inform the reader; this is not intended to be vindictive. I called Gunnar Electric to replace my old fuse box to run a 220 volt. They had me text a picture of my fuse box and told me there was a 2-week wait. I scheduled the appointment and waited for two weeks. When they arrived, they said, "it's worse than I thought." That's fair, so I tried to remove the obstacles. First, he mentioned the surrounding cabinet was in the way. So, I took a hammer and crowbar to it. Next was the addition of a ground line, which is still fair. At the very end, he said, "you're screwed." He was referring to the fact that the electrical box was in the bathroom. Keep in mind; this was after I removed the cabinet, was open to additional work, and waited two weeks. That said, the receptionist was kind and responsive, and the person who originally came to my house was nice and explained the situation (albeit, after I waited two weeks and removed a cabinet). I would make sure to get everything in writing and probably use someone else if you need something done fast or within a strict budget.

From start to finish the quality of service was exceptional. Elizabeth helped schedule an appointment that was perfect for my schedule & Mark (Technician) was true professional. The work was performed in a timely fashion with attention to detail. I will happily recommend the team at Gunnar Electric to anyone looking for honest & reliable service.
