When my partner of 35 years was diagnosed with dementia, my journey through loss and grief began. Day by day, week after week, I lost a little more of her until the day she died. Neither one of us had family members close by. As a lesbian couple, we had no children. It was a lonely journey. Being able to go to Living Through Loss, every week gave me the support to focus on Bridget right to the end. Losing my partner, meant being alone for the first time in my life. The on-going support continues to be invaluable. I experience a real sense of being understood and cared about as I continue to grieve and cope with life alone.

In 2013, I not only lost my father, I lost my best friend to stage 4 prostate cancer. My world, as I knew it, had changed. I feel blessed to have heard about Living Through Loss. I not only did one-to-one grief counselling but I also joined a grief group that they offered. I found it helpful to talk about my loss with others who were dealing with grief and loss because we had a mutual understanding and respect for each other’s stories and our unique processes. I love that when you walk into the office, you immediately feel safe and secure. You are safe to be open and vulnerable. Grief and loss can come in all shapes and sizes. There is no judgement, just pure acceptance for where you are at the present moment and honouring those feelings. I highly recommend Living Through Loss.

I can't say enough good things about Living Through Loss Counselling, I am seeing Lynette who is absolutely wonderful, very professional, has a huge amount of knowledge and experience. She has saved my life, I came to Living Through Loss at one of the worst times in my life, my only child, my beloved adult son had taken his life by suicide. Lynette and I got on immediately and has helped me so much, with explanations, advising me how to make my life better, continue living, she is one of the most nurturing people I know. Lynette has helped me even when she was out the country, several times she called me and I could speak with her for an hour. When I was out of the country and having the most awful grief attacks, I could e-mail her, she helped me with such compassion and advice. I am so grateful that I found this counselling Society, I love coming to see Lynette, I feel very safe in her cosy office and I can talk to her about anything. I am so grateful I have Lynette in my life, and I am sure I will be seeing her for a long time yet, my grief is still very hard for me to bear, I need Lynette to help me work through all my pain. Thank you Lynette for all you do for me ❤️

In November 2013 when I lost my husband of 45years I was devastated and inconsolable. My daughter found Living Through Loss Counselling where I was privileged to meet Lynette Pollard-Elgert and the journey of my life began. Lynette provided me with an outlet for my grief where I was able to discuss the most intimate details of my husband and I's life in complete comfort. Lynette was the neutral and nurturing person I needed to help weave me back into the world without my beloved husband. I have been able to direct my feelings of loss in a positive manner and I have learned to cope and move forward in life but I couldn't have done it without Living Through Loss Counselling and I am forever grateful that it exists because without it and Lynette's expertise, openness and care of the human condition I wouldn't be where I am today .

When I experienced two deaths within a couple of weeks of each other, while being the main caregiver to my mother who was undergoing treatments for cancer, It was too much for me to handle. Lynette at Living through Loss guided me through my grief process and also helped me to learn how I could look after myself while still caregiving. I feel more peaceful and confident in moving forward because of the work we did. They are there for people who are experiencing grief in a practical, gentle and compassionate way. I am truly grateful for their support during my time of need.
