I find Dr. Syras incredibly helpful. He was not only accurate in his diagnosis, but also helpful in applying practical ways to solve my problems. It felt as if I could breathe again after seeing him.... Wonderful sessions! Extremely insightful. He might have a long waiting list but he is well worth it.

Took my teenaged son to see Dr. Derksen because he was struggling with anxiety and was starting to self-harm. Chose Dr. Derksen because of his education, because his website indicated he is experienced working with people with anxiety and because he had written an article on adolescents and self-harm, so it looked like he was well qualified and that this would fall withing his scope of work. We met with Dr. Derksen, who advised in order to help my son, we needed to do a full assessment. After being told four different amounts, each getting higher than the last, we paid around $1,800.00 for the assessment. The result: "He has anxiety." Great. That's what we came in for. What can we do for him? "I could possibly refer you to someone who could help, or you could look into putting him on some medication. It's up to you." He knew what we were there for from the start, told us he'd need to do the assessment in order to proceed to help and then literally seconds after the final payment went through we were told he never had any intention of personally treating our son and gave us no solid direction for the next steps to take. So, if you do go and see him, get all quotes in writing, and before you pay anything, ask if he actually has any intention of actually assisting you after the assessment. Or... save yourself the money and aggravation and see someone else.
