Ok, I have read nearly every review here, and I’m inclined to believe the majority of them, at least the more recent ones, are written by hired hands. This is the worst experience I’ve had with a moving company, and that is saying something considering my family has moved 4 times in the last 5 years.
Prior to hiring Ameritex, we had already spent several days boxing up the majority of our things. We only needed help with the larger pieces of furniture and appliances. The crew sent to us moved at a painfully slow pace. While I value caution more than speed it, it was clear that we did not get the A-team. They would consistently retreat to the truck only to disappear for 10-15 minutes at a time. I’d give them the benefit of the doubt and speculate that they were evaluating how to arrange everything had they not been so obviously lazy from the start.
Two of the men were polite and professional, but the one who seemed to be leading the crew was rude and clearly put off about having to work that day. I don’t know if he’s always that lazy or if we were just unfortunate. I wish I had a photo of him the moment he found out we’d decided not to take the refrigerator. The look of relief on his face was priceless and completely summed up his attitude. He interrupted my wife and I a few times while we were discussing where to put things and tried to get out of moving a few pieces of furniture, untruthfully telling me my wife had instructed him to leave them behind.
I told them twice to move the truck towards the driveway when we began taking stuff out of the garage to save time due to the home being located on a corner lot. However, they elected to ignore me and leave it parked at the front of the house. I watched them roll every remaining piece of furniture down the driveway and walk it 50 yards in the street to load it onto the truck. It was ridiculously inefficient.
They later put a baseball sized hole in the wall of our new home within 5 minutes of bringing things in. Had we not noticed I’m inclined to believe they would have taken off without saying a word about it.
I had no problem with them taking a break to eat and was happy to buy burgers for everyone. However, the crew member I mentioned above had the nerve to tell us they were going to take lunch before we drove out to the new house to unload. We weren’t having it, and if they had showed up that day with some semblance of a work ethic they would’ve been finished by then anyway.
They did not remove the plastic wrap from numerous pieces of furniture and actually had to borrow my knife and tools. They did not hook up the lines to the washer and dryer before putting them against the wall, so now we have to back them both out to do it. They carelessly and needlessly put packing tape over the top of a dresser finished with nitrocellulose. So of course it ate right through the gloss. I just got the impression that after only a couple of hours they had already checked out.
The bottom line is that there are better companies. Ameritex’s marketing team clearly has some chops, so I really have to hand it to them. I don’t make a habit of writing reviews, but I’ve made a point to in instances that a company’s performance is this disappointing.
