3rd time was not the charm.
As a past customer, I felt confident in SC. This was not how I felt afterwards.
3 men showed up at 530pm, already exhausted from moving someone down 3 flights of stairs. They dragged @$$ the entire time, running the clock. One guy refused to go upstairs. Another guy continually dropped things downstairs, and the other worked furiously to make up for the slackers, which didnt help Much more at all.
Then they drove to the wrong storage facility, even after I confirmed the correct address and told them it was 4 min away. This added 1.5 hours to the time I was being charged.
Spoke with management and was assured i WOULD NOT be charged for this time. Guess what.... I was charged for that time afterall! Instead of the assumed $375, They overdrafted my bank account sucking out $500 without remembering they weren't going to charge me for driving my belongings all over town for an additional hour and a half. Then, management took zero responsibility for the $100 in fees I incurred for their failure to remember they weren't going to charge me for the wrong address delivery attempt.
But back to unloading.... when they finally Did make it to the correct address each one of the men was already frustrated tired and ready to go home. They haphazardly loaded my belongings into a storage unit and left all the moving blankets covering my furniture. When I brought this to their attention, 1 of the men said it's our gift to you, and continued to pile furniture into the unit haphazardly. They must not have played Tetris in their youth.
When it came time to sign off on the paperwork I was not explained anything I was pointed at boxes and told initial here and mishal here initial here. Then the guy with the bum knee said tips are graciously accepted. This was probably his 4th time to solicit for a tip in the entire 3 hours I knew him. I reluctantly gave each man a $20, just wanting the evening to end and for them to be on their way
After getting them out of there, I started to restack and re organize my belongings. Boxes that had been marked fragile were dented, And plastic storage containers from target that were newly purchased for the move had their lids shattered, how I have no idea. My solid bed foundation was in pieces, and when it was dropped down the stairs, several attachment points were sheared off, rendering it garbage.
It took multiple phone calls in reminders about the over charging on my count before anything was done about it. And then they only reluctantly returned a $180. That in cover the damage to any of my belongings... Although I'm quite sure somebody made me sign up for insurance for the move because again when I initialed boxes on the contract, I recall reading it, tho none of it was explained to me... And instead of handling the over charge on their end electronic Li I had to drive 45 minutes during the peak of traffic to retrieve a check from an assistant and barely make it to the bank before they closed.... As I would be leaving the next morning to go out of town on business.
Overall? I'm still shocked. It was awful. I felt like I was taken advantage of. I was by myself had no friends as backup no spouse. As a female, it's hard enough to find trusted work, but I really felt like I was taken advantage of being alone. Never again.
