Phenomenal business that does things the right way. The customer service, friendliness, expertise, and commitment to being open and honest with the customer's needs is far and above any other board shop in the city. The employees aren't pushy with their selling techniques and are extremely honest and knowledgeable. I've met the owner/operator and its obviously why this place has such a warm, friendly, and enthusiastic vibe and culture. Ryan is an extremely friendly, enthusiastic, honest, and hardworking individual who makes sure every Royal employee is 100% commitment to putting the customer's needs first and foremost. This store makes you want to come back and reminds you of the level of customer service every successful business should be offering. Well done Royal!

Once in a while you find a store that deserves a great review. A store that isn’t a chain store and that isn’t some fly by night store that will be gone in a few months or maybe a year down the road. A store owned by someone in the community, who loves what they sell and has the heart for what they do that stands out as a something extraordinary and rare. I don’t write reviews very often but after the great service we had today I wanted to take the time to try to speak to you, whoever you are, that might be reading this and trying to decide where to go for a skateboard in Calgary. Don’t look any further, it’s Royal. My son is 13 and his birthday is in a few weeks. For several months he has been discussing stepping up from his Penny board and wanting a long board. We agreed that he could have a new board for his birthday a couple of weeks early so that he could enjoy it now. My own experience with skateboards is some 30 years in the past so trying to find a solid store to help guide him was important. Word of mouth had already steered us toward Royal but I started poking around here and there, reading reviews and talking with other parents. We walked into Royal today to get a good feel for things. The owner, Ryan, was on hand and began talking with my son about what he wanted, what he was used to and what he was comfortable with. Ryan pulled 5 different long boards down and had my son go back and forth trying to find what was the most comfortable. An hour went by as Ryan helped my son sort out everything from the deck and the trucks to the bearings and the wheels. He spoke to my son as a peer, answering questions and explaining differences in every aspect of the board as it came together. Gradually it all comes together and my son is beaming with excitement. Ryan explained the different types of helmets, their certification, which can take a single hit and multiple hits. All of the details you want to have come up as a parent came up naturally in the course of the discussion. It wasn’t forced, it wasn’t a script. It was someone with a deep product knowledgeable talking about things with a teenager that might not ever have thought about before. I found the prices of the store were reasonable. I didn’t feel anything was overpriced or out of line. The service was exemplary. As a parent I found the store to be everything I wanted and I think you will too. I highly recommend Royal.

Bought my snowboard here and returned to the shop to have my back edge fixed which I damaged on a rock. Charged me $40 which was fine. They told me I had free tune ups as I bought the board from them - great! I left the board with them for over 2weeks and called from out of town. The employee said it was ready so I drove in. When he brought me my board it wasn’t tuned up and the damaged edge was still as is was. They didn’t do anything to the board but I was leaving for a trip and needed the board when I asked for my $40 back they told me no refund unless I had a reciept! My copy of the reciept had since been tossed but they had a record of when I dropped the board off and confirmed that I would have had to pay up front for the repair. So In the end I didn’t get the tune up or repair, didn’t have my board for over two weeks and paid $40 for it.
