I worked for this lawyer for a couple of months in 2014 and found the experience to be challenging in dealing with disorganization and uncomfortable work environment. As a legal assistant interested in gaining experience in real estate, I grabbed this opportunity to work for Mr. Cody to learn that part of the law. From the interview on (the first two weeks) I enjoyed working with Mr. Cody as the environment was light and the work manageable as the current assistant was leaving for another office. After she left, the environment changed working for Mr. Cody. I had no idea that his electronic files were so disorganized as previous assistants had simply copied and pasted the main file from the first assistant and labelled them under their name. What that mean was subfolers upon subfolders of files that had been added to over the years. I had no idea what was the most recent file or document and neither did Mr. Cody. It took me 15 minutes to a half and hour to find one document. The other new assistant had begun labelling new folders as a means to organize the documents and for a time that was helping clean up the mess. When I dealt with Mr. Cody on a file or files he was defensive with me when I asked a question. He seemed to favour the other assistant and therefore spent the time with her on files to get them ready and he left me to pick up her slack and his, doing more administrative work than real estate. There were other issues that made working for Mr. Cody a challenge and that is why I quit after two months. I had had enough of being harassed by him on a daily basis which made my working there a nightmare. Mr. Cody did not seem to respect me or treat me with fairness as an employee as I was left to fend for myself on files that required his attention. I have worked in many different law offices in Edmonton and by far this one was the worst managed of all. To say the least I lost my desire to ever work in a law firm again thanks to this experience with Mr. Cody.
