The Edmonton Northern River Yoga and Karate School has been offering amazing traditional Karate and Yoga training to neighbourhoods in Edmonton for decades. I started attending the school when I was in junior high and have been going ever since. The teachers are dedicated, caring and supportive. The other students are positive and engaging - many have become friends of mine. The classes are accessible for beginners because there is focus on learning, not competitiveness. Family members are encouraged to learn alongside their sons/daughters and there is a kids specific program offered as well. The instructors at Northern River truly care about student development and progress is individualized and achievable. The fees are very reasonable (the school is non-profit) and the ability to have up to 16 adult classes per month for one cost is great. I can't recommend this school enough- if you are new (or not!) to Karate or Yoga, have an interest in trying something new with encouraging people, or would like your kids to participate in a positive environment, you've found your school.

Great people, great environment. Everyone is very positive, friendly, and welcoming. It is all about focusing on your personal practice and improving yourself. Highly recommend this school for adults (kids can go too!) trying Karate for the first time. Also they have Ashtanga yoga to complement the karate making it a well rounded school.

I'm a long-time member - most students keep coming back year after year! Warm, loving, safe environment to learn a traditional practice.

Very positive and open environment with a focus on tradition and excellence, with teachers who truly love what they are doing. I'm a 3rd degree BB in a different style and train in Ontario, but I join classes at Northern River whenever I am in Edmonton, and they always welcome me graciously. Great training!

I've been a Northern River Karate School student since it started back in 1989! We have a wonderful instructor and a loving, encouraging community. I feel so lucky to be a part of it!
