This place is really an amazing yoga temple. Not just a yoga studio

Nov 12, 2017
I attended the Blue Whale Sound Journey and was really disappointed. I can't speak for the yoga classes here but as a venue for soundbaths, Bhakti Yoga Shala fell way short. The coordinator who ran the soundscape seemed good but I really couldn't tell because after the breathing and meditation warm-up -- the yoga studio's employee who collected donations at the beginning and was participating in the ceremony -- fell asleep... then snored loudly throughout the whole thing! The healer tried to wake him with sound and when that didn't work another participant tried patting him on the head. But that didn't work either! He basically drowned out the whole sound. To make matters worse, the commercial eateries next door were blasting loud music in the courtyard that was a terrible distraction. So instead of a relaxing time it was incredibly frustrating. While the event sounded good on paper, the unprofessionalism of the studio employee and the inability to block the outside sound made it a huge letdown.

Bhakti Yoga Shala is full of love, sunshine and wonderful souls. This is a donation-based yoga and kirtan studio in the heart of downtown Santa Monica. The recommended gift is between $15-$20 but you can donate via cash, Venmo, Paypal or credit card. If you're interested in learning more about the Bhakti Yoga style, then this is the perfect place for your practice. There is truly a loving community at Bhakti Yoga Shala that is open to all people and skill levels.

Magical place for an amazing, sweaty practice. Check out the kirtan vinyasa class w/ Govind das!
