Over crowded, building should not have historical designation. They all need to be torn down and please build a modern facility.

Breathtaking views of Mount Adam, Mount Helens and Mount Baker while standing at 10k feet elevation on Mount Ranier. The hike to this point is excruciating but if you are lucky you will be rewarded with some stunning views around you. Glissading down was a lot of fun. Close to 4700ft elevation gain in 8miles.

Camp Muir Is a world away from ordinary hikes. Granted, you get the people who climb up onto the Muir Snowfield who just want to glissade back down. Totally unprepared people who are fun to watch as they are shivering and miserable after they get drenched sliding on their bums. You have your climbers, your day hikers and then the out and out tourists. Lots of Indians and a few Chinese who scream as they slide down. Do I feel bad when people get into trouble going up there or coming back down? Nope, not in the least. Glissading is one of the most dangerous things you can do coming back down. I would say the majority of injuries are from that activity. What is gratifying.. Staying the night at Muir. I climb Rainier, but I also like to climb up to Muir and camp overnight. Once the day hikers clear out and the climbers getting ready to summit that night all go to bed early.. You have what feels like the entire place to yourself. The views as the sun starts to go down and the sunrises you can witness are breathtaking. What I like the most about the sunrises is the fact you really do have the entire place to yourself. The climbers are all up the mountain and the hordes of hikers won't be showing up for a few more hours. I have no desire to be down with the tourists who flock there. The amount of imbeciles decrease the farther up the mountain you go and I feel the type of people up at Muir are just a more wholesome bunch of people with a better etiquette and social skills.
