This Salvation Army Camp on Deer Lake is an excellent summer destination for youth and kids. It has great facilities with too much fun stuff to describe. The staff is well trained and dedicated to serving.

As a past employee I can honestly tell how this camp is run and operated horribly. My main issue is the staff. As this is a Christian Camp I would hope that at least the counselors are Christians but sadly that just isn’t true, most of the staff are involved in law and/or contract breaking activities on and off of camp. These things included smoking cigarettes, smoking marijuana, drinking alcohol, engaging in sexual activities, all of this by the way took place at camp. Ironically it’s the Christians who are punished for basic God involved relationships, some punishments included no talking, no being within 7 feet of each other, and they were even threatened with being fired. There is pressure also put on younger staff to do the work of the adults. I saw firsthand a young man have to take on the responsibility of the counselor because the actual counselor was physically unable to do his job, you would think this would all be taken into consideration during the hiring process. Overall this camp could be great if it had the right leadership and staff to work with them.

Full disclosure. .. I used to work there -and I loved it! A great Christian based, sliding scale camping experience. Affordable to almost any family. Well trained staff. Great child protection hiring, background checking, training, great monitoring procedures (which are more important than background checks! ) - a safe place for kids. Swimming, boating, hiking, classes, campfires, songs, skits. .. almost 100 years at this location!
