The scenery is breath taking, the amenities are incredible but the people are what makes this this just the best camp experience one could hope for.

Our experience has been in the winter. The staff is awesome and they go above and beyond to make the stay a pleasant one. Good venue and great food.

Both for kids and staff, 'The Ranch' is full of adventure, fun, growth and lifelong friends. This summer camp changed the course of my future.

My brother and I went to this camp about 20 years ago... It came up in discussion recently as my friends and I have children approaching summer camper age. I hadn't thought it about in a long time, but looking back, it was hilariously bad. I refused to go to any camp for years after and I think my brother never went to a camp again. What stands out most in my memory is one night around the campfire, when I noticed that several counselors were missing. I had guessed they were planning to jump out of the bushes during a scary story, but I was naive... A counsellor solemnly announced that they needed to share something important with us, that might scare some kids, but it was important. My brother looked at me quizzically from where the younger kids were seated across the fire and I shrugged and gestured to the woods. He grinned and nodded. We knew all about this game. A counsellor set down a little stereo and played some music. A narrator began describing the last days of Jesus' life and then, out of the bushes marched my counsellor, wearing a loincloth and doused with fake blood, a crown of thorns atop his head, dragging a large cross! Other counsellors walked behind him in Roman soldier costumes, whipping at him. The narrator described the torture and debasement of Jesus. My brother and I shared another glance, with him miming "whaaat?" I grinned and shrugged in response. This was gonzo. Forget the missing go-carts, forget the air rifles that were sighted worse than a carnival's - this was something rare and terrible. I recall hearing a few young kids sobbing. The counsellors said some solemn words at the end of the passion play and we went back to our covered wagons. I vaguely recall an extraordinarly awkward activity at the last meal where girls and boys were matched by lottery to eat with one another. Looking back, I have to laugh at how stupid and unnecessary it was for children to be obliged to participate in that with utter strangers. At the end of the week, I was bursting to ask my parents if they knew what they were sending us to. We knew summer camp didn't usually involve spectacles like that. My mom said "well, we knew some Christian morals and values wouldn't hurt... But no, we had no idea!" I doubt they would have believed me without my brother to corroborate. They laughed as we drove home and that was the end of summer camps for us.
