Great place. Nice view of the water. Not busy. Full 30 amp service. Would be better with 50 amps but 30 amps worked as well

An unexpected surprise! We loved this place! The property was just beautiful with fantastic views of the mountains & South Harbour. The grounds and all associated buildings were well maintained & clean. Prices were very fair including the $1 shower. We did not get the oysters but hear they were fantastic. Walking trails on the property and plenty of room to stretch your legs. One of the trails leads to the Aspy River and a short drive down the road and you find yourself at an awesome beach! The owners and their pup Jack were wonderful hosts! I hope to come back some day.

Beware of Unadvertised Charges, Solicitation, and "Neighborliness" I stayed at this campground for a while so I got a pretty good idea of how things worked at this place. The campground charges $32 per night (in 2018) for tent camping, which is more or less about $6 more expensive than other campsites in the area. The campground staff leave the grounds at 9 pm so if there is a party causing disturbance after that time, you are pretty much left on your own to deal with the situation. The owners of the campground send out kids to each site every two or three days to solicit donations. The laundry is $2 for the washer and $2 for the dryer and you have to put in $1 every few minutes to operate the shower. In most other campgrounds around the area, shower is free. After a few days of my stay at the campground, the owners offered me some free service. After the service was completed, I offered them a more than generous monetary compensation. To my great surprise, they demanded that I give them a bigger compensation. Not wanting to ruin my vacation, I relented and paid. Afterwards, I saw them do similar things to an elderly couple—but on a much grander scale—demanding from them all kinds of ridiculous and exorbitant fees. It was truly sad to see the episode unfold. After this experience, I will forever hide away from Hide Away Campground.

If you're looking for a quiet camp with a great view and the best oysters of your life, this is the place for you. There is a short ~3 km walking trail that will take you around the camp and down to the Aspy River, perfect to stretch your legs after a long drive. The oyster bar was the best. The owners know how to superbly shuck an oyster and they were the best I've ever had. A definite must along the Cabot Trail.

Couldn't be happier with the rustic cabin camping experience we had visiting here in Aug 2017 with family of 3 (including 6 yr old). A simple, quiet campground with beautiful views. Friendly owners. Will make it a point to stay here again next time we're in Cape Breton!
