Overall the property looks gorgeous. I had the pleasure of meeting with most the directors for a job interview. I met with Jon Fredrick, which was lovely . He told me I did great in the interview and needed to meet with the other director named Brendan Turner. Everything was going fantastic until this meeting where I was informed that staff are only payed $1600 for the whole summer, with a $100 bonus for staying the whole summer. For the amount of money you are paying for your chirldren to attend this camp, half the money goes straight into the camp’s pockets, not towards food and sourcing quality staff members.

Where to begin? Sparrow lake camp has been my summer escape for the past four years now, I started off in cabin 12, the Lit, and this previous summer I was a staff member on the site team. Waking up at sparrow every morning was extremely fulfilling, getting to see the smiles of campers and fellow staff members, then straight to cleaning the washrooms! My days were very productive, and well balanced between work, rest and fun. I enjoyed the company of my fellow co-workers who were very supportive, understanding and fun. there were many thresholds that I overcame, and I don't think I could have overcame them with the help of the directing, when ever an issue came up, Barb was there to to set things straight, she's a very wise, experienced understanding person, and I don't quite get the comment from the Previous staff member "Hanna". When I was first a camper at sparrow, I found the staff were very welcoming, and outgoing, the Activities and camp-wide games were exhilarating, I've made new friends, and it's what has driven me to return every year. Working on the site team gave me the chance to keep the camp Beautiful, safe and clean. The memories I've made at Sparrow will stay with me forever.

Saparrow lake camp is a beautiful place with the friendliest staff. I loved the food and activities. My kids enjoyed all the activities. I also recommend it for people who want to go camping but have no experience; this is where to start.

Sparrow Lake Camp is hands down one of the most important environments I've had the experience to grow in. From a camper since 2007 to my staff years of 2017-18, I have seen so many wonderful humans grow and flourish in the space SLC provides. There is a reason why campers come back for so many years, and I truly believe that it is due to the people that continue to work there and the campers that return. Home is where the people are, and it is most definitely a place that challenges people to step out of their comfort zones and try new things. It is a safe space for many people, and such a beautiful environment to explore that space in. From the evening programs of capture the flag to reflecting at vesper rocks, I have gained the best memories, laughs, and friendships because of this summer camp.

Sparrow Lake Camp is the first, and (I say this with pride) only summer camp that I have had the privilege of going to. Being able to be a part of the Sparrow Lake experience from camper, all the way to a resource staff member has been one of the most fulfilling things that I have experienced, and has filled me with many memories and friends that I will always cherish! If you are considering sending your child to summer camp, this is the place to be! I can assure you that as someone whose ENTIRE family has no camping experience whatsoever; SLC is an amazing, safe, and fun environment that virtually all children (including myself when I first started out!) thrive in throughout their stay. I really encourage you to give the place a try, and I'm confident you won't regret it!
