Mr

We went to Shooting Star five straight years. The first year Shane was extremely accommodating. As time passed, he became difficult. Paying to take fish home was unethical. He tried to keep prime fishing areas a secret. Especially trout.

I don't like camping at all, but I love the wild. Shooting Star Camp solved my problem because it offers a true wilderness experience in a comfortable cabin with just enough amenities (propane stove, fridge, and large beds) to make the week truly enjoyable. I went with my family, Fisherman Husband and three girls ages 13, 12 and 7. We unplugged for the week and it was so relaxing. The lake was pristine, with at least 40 metres of shallow waters and a sandy bottom for lots of play time. Shooting Star provided us with sit on top kayaks, a canoe and a simple fishing boat with 6HP motor. Perfect for trolling for fish or just touring around the lake. We brought our snorkelling gear and got up close and personal with small mouth bass, clams and crayfish. The sky at night lived up to the camp name as we watched shooting stars streak across the sky. I absolutely loved it. BUT it's still the wilderness - there is no electricity, no running water and the mosquitos in the evening are truly Northern Ontario quality! So if you're hoping to see nature at it's finest, on a lake you will share with no one except the beavers, fish and sometimes a moose, then - book your trip and prepare to sit on the dock, with a steaming hot coffee or cold beverage and unwind from all distractions.

When you are looking to get away from the busy city and really want a remote wilderness experience, than I would recommend Shooting Star Camp. Part of what makes this area so special is the remote nature of the cabins. Having being going up annually for over 10 years, I find it to be a place that you can truly unwind and soak up nature. You are likely to see loons, eagles, beavers, and may even see a moose or a bear on the Spanish River. If you like fishing, than this area gets so little fishing pressure, that using live bait is almost like cheating. It is quite easy to catch over 20 fish a day. The quality and quantity of the fishing I have only ever found at a fly in lodge. The train in experience is both comfortable and convenient and more recently the train service has changed staff, and it is on time and reliable. Betsy and Shane have over 50 years of experience in running Shooting Star Camp, and when I recently went up with my family, they were very accommodating and thoughtful about how they might make our trip better. It's not everyone that wants to go away to a cabin that has no running water, or electricity, but that doesn't mean it is not comfortable, and you can cook on the propane stove and keep your food cold in the fridge. The lack of cell phone reception means that everyone isn't distracted and it is part of the reason that I chose this trip with my family. Going to Shooting Star Camp is about appreciating the simple things, with world class views and pristine untouched wilderness. I highly recommend it.

My father and I have been going here for over 22 years. Shane & Betsy have always provided us with incredible service and an amazing experience. Fishing is always great. The view is breath taking. Really a great place to go.

After four previous trips up, I look forward to the trip to Shooting Star all year long. Beautiful scenery and fantastic fishing in the remote location which is pretty easy to get to. The cabins offer comfortable accommodations with all the room you need plus some and the owners couldn't be more helpful from fishing tips to hauling gear.

I have know Shane and Betsy for at least 15 years and try to make Shooting Star Camp an annual trip. I like the way they run their business and give us great wilderness experiences whether it be fishing or hunting. It is an authentic Northern Ontario getaway with all the right amenities. The train-in experience is truly unique as well and there have been many times that for the week away we have not seen another person. The nature and beauty of this area is unparalleled and I recommend their services.
