Friendly Acres Not A Place For Me

We arrived shortly after our daughter, our 2 granddaughters and their great grandmother. Unbeknownst to us, we surpassed the quota they considered a family. Four individuals seems to be the number that is deemed a family unit. Seems ridiculous that a number is given to define a family. There was plenty of room in a cottage that sleeps 6 for us. There would be a $10 a day fee for the extra individuals. Our daughter was given verbal confirmation that we would not be charged this fee. However, this was not observed by the owners. After various forms of discussion and agreeing to pay the $10 a day surcharge for 3 adult members of our family, we were informed that our 4 week rental would be terminated after the first week. This was mind blowing. As for the cottage itself: I did not expect the Taj Mahal but I was expecting a clean cottage. The cottage was old and very dated. Bathroom had mold. There were spider webs along the windows and the paneling was detaching from the studs.

Very Unfriendly Acres

Place is nice but the owners are not. What was agreed upon at the time of booking was not the case when we arrived. The owner would not honour the verbal confirmation of our stay & even called the police on us. The owner was kicking us out. A young family with a 2.5 yr old & a 3 wk old newborn, grandparents & an 80 yr old Great grandmother. Never in my life. We unpacked 4 cars worth of stuff for the months stay. We were even willing to stay in the dirty unkept cottage & pay any extra charges he wanted. The police talked the owner into letting us stay for the week. We were not there even 24 hrs when we were being kicked out. I could rate the park but because of the way the owners treated us l give it a zero. I have to give it a rating or I cannot post. Sucks. Our 4 generation vacation was ruined.

Unfriendly acres.

Imagine kicking out a 3 week old infant and an elderly 80 year old lady bc your rental cottage that sleeps 6 was only permitted to house 2 adults. As per their "policy" Booked a 28 day stay at friendly acres. Had discussion with owners wife, Zita, explaining that I'd be recovering from a having a baby while my parents and grandmother joined me and my 2 yr old. Found a cottage that sleeps 6, gained verbal permission to have above mentioned adults. Upon arrival, we were told we rented the family cottage and a family unit is defined as 2 adults and 2 kids (or 4 I guess) and any other adults were subject for a $10/day per person fee. After paying over $3000 for the stay, surprised at the door and told to pay more. When we contested it we were met by the owner, Albert Crawley, who was extremely aggressive, ignorant and rude. Immediately got defensive about his policy and proceeded to tell us he didn't want us in his park. Very dirty and run down. Will squeeze you for more $ after you book

My family had a great time. We rented a 2 bedroom cottage and we had a blast. The cottage was sufficient and had everything we needed. The view was amazing. The owners are great abs really care for the place and it was affordable. The kids loved having access to both the beach and the pool. Neither of them complained once about wanting to come home and that was a huge difference for them. The rest of the trailer occupants were quite kind also. We would totally book again.

I am 80 year young Great-Greandmother, I live far away from my Granddaughter and her young family: 2 year old and 3 weeks old Infant….I was so excited to have an opportunity to spend few weeks with my Great-Granddaughters. I drove from Cambridge via highway 401 for hours…(due to heavy traffic) to join my Family at Friendly Acres Park… 278 Friendly Acres Rd, Hastings, ON…. Beautiful Spot especially for young families…! ……… To my disappointment… we could stay only one week due to very unfriendly Owner… It was very upsetting experience … Cottage was filthy……! I wouldn’t stay there again even if would be FREE…!

The trailer park seemed like a fantastic idea. Found a cottage that sleeps 6, gained verbal permission to have above mentioned adults. Upon arrival, we were told we rented the family cottage and a family unit is defined as 2 adults and 2 kids (or 4 I guess) and any other adults were subject for a $10/day per person fee. Immediately got defensive about his policy and proceeded to tell us he didn't want us in his park. The  verbal discussion I had with his wife was irrelevant to him. He wouldn't allow me to speak with her. Then The police arrived ! My 80 yr grandmother was in tears. We explained the dilemma with the officers and they negotiated for us to stay one week, and were refunded nearly $2000. We had only been there 12 hours. Albert lied to the police and insisted we were yelling and swearing, we were calm and flabbergasted by the situation along with his anger and escalation. I won't even go into detail the state of this cottage. We knew it was no shangri-la because of the price, but we were hardly prepared for moldy bathrooms, garbage under the beds, cobwebs, bug ridden windows and black sills. If we don't bring bedbugs home, I'll be thrilled we escaped without taking creatures home with us. Cottage details should read : sleeps 6 but only 2 permitted. This isn't a friendly place for families to stay. I've rented many places and owned rental units and have never experienced this level of sheer ignorance, pride and foolishness. Unfriendly acres operates as a dictatorship... I wouldn't suggest staying here. And if you make a verbal agreement ahead of time.. it will not be honored. If it doesnot make sense to you, it's just bc it doesn't make sense at all Renters beware......

We have been going to this resort for over 15 years, and have always rented a cottage. This is our first time with the new owners and what a horrible experience! The pool was under construction and we were given no notice and no compensation, the owner said we have a beach. Ya, well the "beach" would accommodate maybe 10 people in the sand. We left one night early becuase it was hot (not their fault) but we had 1 fan for a three bedroom, and the disrepair the cottage was in was disgusting. The front door was falling apart, there were water stains and mould on the ceiling, and all of the windows were filthy with dead bugs trapped inside. In each bedroom there were fly traps hanging, which totally grossed me out. The shower was BLACK with dirt and grime. We were told no dogs allowed and yet the furniture was covered in PET HAIR!. Ashley was very pleasant to deal with and apologized for our experience but her hands were tied. BEWARE! DO NOT RENT THE COTTAGES. We are not picky by any means but this was the worst vacation ever.
