Went there for a family function/re-union in Nov' 2017. Rainy cold day outside, but inside was great. Nice clean kitchen, plenty of tables, chairs and the large wood fireplace was great too. Awesome people to work with. Very reasonable price. It was the perfect setting for our event.

Emily Poisson July 13 at 12:45 PM *please share* My sister Abbey is the sweetest person in the world. She is smart, outgoing- LOVES camping and being with other people. This is why I and everyone else who knows Abbey and is aware of what happened to my sister on Sunday, July 8 at Gesstwood Camp is completely unacceptable and bottom line discriminatory. After endlessly trying to contact the executive director and chair of the board all week, I'm hoping through social media I can finally be contacted and share the hurt and disrespect my family has received from the camp director and a full refund for what happened to my sister. I received a phone call from a girl named Bre (who said she was the camp director) on Sunday night demanding that I come to pick up my sister after dropping her off 3 hours before. I questioned why and told her how excited Abbey is to be there and she probably needs something. Bre then told me Abbey is "uncontrollable" and "running away from anyone". I knew immediately this was NOT Abbey and she was having a difficult time communicating her needs. I arrived at the camp and Abbey was immediately upset that I was trying to take her home. She was using her sign language saying "please", "I'm sorry". As well as typing on her iPad "camping back to cabin". I explained to Abbey we can try again and I'll go get her settled in the cabin and tomorrow will be a new day. Bre with a very unsettling demeanour called Abbey a "safety hazard" and said that Abbey is no longer her problem. I explained to Bre that just because she can not verbally talk, does not mean she can't communicate her needs and wants in a different way than others do. Bre then decided to reminded me that my sister is "autistic". Gesstwood Camp, the least my family deserves at this point is a conversation and a full refund. My poor sister has been asking to "go back to Gesstwood" all week. I fully question the training, skills and counsellors at your camp and hope you can change your policies for the safety of future campers with disabilities.
