All in all, an incredibly positive experience. We loved the warmth of the people of Ranier; Woody (the owner) is a legend in the area, people know him even on the Canadian side! He was great, eager to share and talk, he took us on a ride with his boat, we even shared some beers together at the bar that is right across the street! We stayed at the French Quarters and the quality of the construction was rustic and nice, we loved it. It has a big window with a view to the Rainy Lake that is awesome. Everyone in the area was very kind and polite; we didn't go with the typical fishing trip in mind, but just as a couple to enjoy nature and each other. We found a lot of places to go to and things to do, both with the car or simply walking around. If you enjoy nature and scene views, or photography, this is a place you can not miss. There's a nice supermarket in International Falls with everything you need at very reasonable prices. We also had to do some complicated paperwork regarding visa status, yet the guards at the border were very understanding on both sides. We did not experience any hassle with the crossing. The day at Fort Frances was great, and the museum was worth it too.
