On departing flight to Detroit from Indianapolis on my way to the 19th YMCA World Council in Chiang Mai, Thailand. 51 years ago, my first Y job was outward bound trips coordinator for Camp Nissokone when the late Chet McLemore was Director. It was the Summer of 1967, a difficult time in the history of Detroit and our nation. But it was a wonderful summer to remember before my next YMCA assignment in Ethiopia. I retired as Director General of the Jerusalem International YMCA in 2009. I will be chairing the 6th WFYR World Conference in Chiang Mai. A great ride since Nissokone. Have a fun safe summer! I was camper for a total of 52 weeks in the 1970s. I feel that things I learned there that have made me the successful person I am today. I volunteer there some every year. (I wish I could quite my job and go work there all summer). I have been through other camps but I only feel like I am HOME when I go to Nissokone. I fell in Love with Nissokone in my teens. And I Love this place today as much I did 40 years ago.

This is more than just a place for your kids to have fun and get in touch with nature. Camp Nisso offers couples a beautiful setting for taking their vows. As well as holiday weekend camps with activities for the entire family.

I am an Oscoda resident and have spent my whole life exploring the great outdoor experiences Oscoda offers. It wasn't until the summer of 2012 that I had the opportunity to explore the shores of Nissokone, I have been working there ever since. The experience has truly made me a better person. I wish I would have been fortunate enough to attend Nissokone, and develop all the skills it offers, as a kid. Camp was the first place I: went horseback riding, went down a zip line, went kayaking and so much more. Camp Nissokone is the brightest part of Oscoda. I have built everlasting memories there and feel anyone who goes can do the same. It's such a great cause.
