The Buchan is a 2 star hotel, with everything that implies. The building is old (and it shows), the rooms are basic bed and ensuite deals, the room was also not very big, and the bed was hard. I actually like hard beds anyway, but it's worth knowing about. Having said all that, the room was very clean, it had a big window that let a lot of light in, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel also has a common room with free tea and coffee, and lots of books. No TV or radio though, oddly enough. It's also in a great location, within walking distance of a lot of restaurants, but no attractions/landmarks. On the other hand, it's close to a main road so you can easily catch the bus to anywhere you want. It also smells really good on the street outside the hotel; this is due to the flower bushes along the street. If you've got pollen allergies or hay-fever, it's worth keeping this in mind. I think I would stay here again, but purely as a place to sleep, shower and change. Come with no expectations at all. It's not bad, just basic.

Nice, quaint hotel. Quiet neighborhood. Friendly staff. No elevators, so heavy suitcases must be carried up stairs for upper floors. No air conditioning. Would stay again.

Excellent price for West End Vancouver. Amazing location. Only steps from Stanley Park in one direction and Denman Street in the other. Simple accommodations but clean with friendly staff.

The hotel is located close to Stanley park and English bay. Great value for rooms. You can choose rooms with shares bathrooms for even better deal. It's an old building and has it's own charm, but no airconditioning. The staff are very friendly and say that the place isn't haunted (but I don't buy that).

Don't expect a lot. It's clean and quiet and affordable. Get your own bathroom. Don't go when it's hot outside, the fans don't help alot. We only stayed one night, so that was doable.
